We had a Sirion for 4 years, and although it was pretty plastic looking it was a great car. No trouble whatsover in 4 years, mechanical or otherwise.
We found that Daihatsu themselves were a bit dodgy with their services, (Although we only used the one in Northcliff when it was there).
A couple of times the car was not cleaned and getting hold of the mechanic was difficult.
The problem is the spare parts, although that could have changed by now (2-3 years ago now), the windscreen cost about R4000.00, Brakes and other basic parts were ridiculous. And going to Midas doesn't help either, they just inform you "refer to dealer".
But was a great little car.
I have to agree, when we were looking around for a car for the Mrs, the parts were expensive. It's not a cheap car to sort if something big goes wrong. We eventually got her a Honda Civic 170i hatch that had a bit more km's, but was cheaper, bigger and had more balls.
