It depends on the effect Wezz. An effect send on an amp is a loop after the preamp. It's best to think of an amp's preamps as a type of effect - a distortion effect.
So if you look at the order you place effects in a chain, the preamp would go in the same place as the distortion effects (look at htp://ratcliffe.co.za/articles/effectchain.shtml for a guide to effects chain order). Anything that comes before the distortion in a chain should go in front of the amps input, and anything after the distortion would usually go in the loop, so it is after the preamp. The only thing left then is a distortion pedal, which would go in front of the amp too.
So generally this means Wah compression and distortion come in front of the amp, pitch and time-based effects go in the loop. EQ and modulation can go either way. Two important notes though:
1. There are no hard-and fast rules. Experiment to see what you come up with.
2. An effects loop usually works at line-level (a very powerful signal level) and guitars are instrument level (low-level). Not all effect are designed to be used at line-level and putting a stop box type effect in a loop can damage it. Usually loops are used for rack gear.
