I believe its because Gibson messed up the serial numbers that time making it hard to know what year your guitar was truly made!!
The serial numbers for '60 Les Pauls start with a 0 (zero)...so no confusion there. Even if the ser no is in doubt, one would look for futher evidence of age such as pot numbers, PAF numbers, etc. Futhermore that guitar has a volute which is a 70's feature (Singe said that earlier).
As mentioned, this was a staged incident...very disappointing indeed.
