The guys on the LPF had some fun modding these, by dropping a P90 in via modified guard. Could be a lot of fun.

I played a Melody Maker for a couple of years in the late 70's. Great little guitar easy to handle nice sustain but it use go out of tune if you looked at it too hard. 8)

Edit - Just looked at the link - not the same guitar - mine was double cut away more SG shaped, Humbuckers and 24 frets.
