Hmmmm...strange that I only recently discovered this forum :/
So on to what I am all about...hmmm lets see,
23 years old right now, been practicing guit for roughly 5 years. Back when I was studying I used to dedicate many hours a day to playing guitar but went through an on/off patch since moving to Jo'Burg from Durbs about 1.5-2 years ago. Lately though I am putting more and more time into playing again...it is not something I want to put aside as I love playing way too much.
Well my gear is very minimal stuff I bought second hand. A Sammick Les Paul and a small amp is all I have at the moment but it really sounds great. Looking to upgrade on the amp though when christmas bonus arrives ? the guit is still more than decent for practice.
My preferred genre/style is a little widespread but I am very much into the progressive rock/metal scene. I have tried my hand at a little of everything in and around that though such as Nightwish, Disturbed, Kamelot, Pink Floyd, Camel, Steve Vai, Dream Theater, Rush, Green Carnation, Iron Maiden, Metallica - hell even Korn and Evanescence(HAHA! like 5 seconds to learn Evanescence tracks by ear ?) gee you name it. I could even play Romance on my electric - a famous Classical number...I just loved to stuff around sometimes.
Right now though I am feeling very overwhelmed by the amount of stuff you can learn and coming out of the on/off phase I am not sure where to begin again.
Well, busy playing Constant Motion by Dream Theater now...I can play it well up until John performs the lead break and then I am buggered about 10 seconds in and it gets way worse from there...wish me luck ? also mastering a track by Kamelot - The Edge of Paradise .. but my timing is a bit out in the fast parts and a lot is by ear and I have to listen more closely.
hmmmm...think I better dig into my scales before I push for the deep end again lol ... ciao
