The Challenge September 2011

Let's see if we can entice more participation with this one:

DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!

For this challenge, in the hope of drawing out as much participation as possible, we're going to bend every rule we can think of. You really get to do whatever you want.

1. Only original songs, no covers. Says who? If you want to record that solo over the backtrack you've been practicing for the last year and a half, then that's what we want to hear. Make it original or make it clichéd but do whatever you want!
2. Duration must be no longer than a minute. No ways! If you want to record a full movie soundtrack, go for it. Make it long or make it short but do whatever you want!
3. Only four instruments... What? Why? Never! If you want to build a backtrack resembling the full Johannesburg Philarmonic then so be it. Make it grandiose or make it simple but, that's right, you guessed it... do whatever you want!

So for this month's challenge and this month only, you get to record anything that tickles your fancy. No specific theme, no restrictions, no reason not to take part. Here's hoping that this will draw the PeteM's with their fingerstyle fancies, the Seventhsons with their maelstromic metal melees, the Squonks with their airy acoustic acrobatics and the Viccy's with their nifty nylon nimbleness back out of the woodwork.

Edit: Having just read your whole topic I know I'm going to get a lot of bitchin' and squarking about "The Rules" and copyright et al but what the hay it's all academic unless people actually enter. If something is obviously offensive or ex-legate well I can go back to the author and suggest a change before publishing.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. But seeing as none of us are making any money off this, surely we should be safe.

I'm pretty confident that there are no meaningful copyright issues here.

Mmmmmm...seems like our little discusion on the challenge before last paid off! ?
We are busy laying down 4 new tracks for the Tamla Kahn band at the moment so things are a bit tight for me.

And what stops you from submitting one of those tracks? This would be the only month where such an entry would be acceptable ?

One of the reasons I stopped entering these challenges is that I found that It difficult to do anything meaningful in 60 seconds however since there are no limits I may be tempted to give this one a bash ? Do I have any other takers for this challenge. Alan, X-rated, Norio, ?

OK - You're on. I know I can do the 60 second thing, but keeping it interesting for longer without resorting to fretboard wankery will be a bit of a challenge for me.

I actuallly liked the 60 second limit. For reasons other than that it approximately matches my atten..... oh look! That cloud looks like a horsey.

Anyhoo, I have no recording capabilities right now so unless I've got some old clip lying around that I feel might stand up to some scrutiny you can count me out.

What Alan said - easier to come up with something that entertains for 1 minute than something that entertains for longer ? Will try record something but I'm limited by my lack of a bass guitar ;(

I am so glad this topic came .... I just ordered my new guitar and I have just received my pedal . And my nice new notebook I am all set to go . This could be fun .

I just want to restate how valuable these challenges are to me. Last week I sold the use of one of the pieces I entered to be used in a corporate vid. ?
