Squonk Yearning for a Strat Again (and possibly a tube amp) Been listening to the following today: Jimi Hendrix - Smash Hits - loved his wild playing style, and the strat sounds so good, dig "The Wind Cries Mary" Bob Dylan - Infidels - Knopfler has such good tone Eric Johnson on the first G3 album - The Tone Ranger That's today, tomorrow could be the turn of the LP, Warren Haynes etc ?
StephenG best strat tone for me is the opening of Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl jam.. if ever there was that Fender twang - its in that song.

Squonk Cant wait to get home and get the best strat like sounds from my Peavey T-60. SRV's version of Little Wing has just blown me away, and that's after hearing it for about the 2000th time Strat Day today, might be selling the wife and kids to buy a Strat!

racman @Zohn - I thinh Johnny Lang mainly plys a Tele Custom or Thinline but it is possible that he dabble with a Strat now and again 9who doesn't ? ?) Also try Chris Duarte for good Texas Blues. My favorite simple lick, tone machine is Tony Joe White aka the "Swamp Fox". Simple melodi Blues with a slight country feel - Listen to the CD Lake Placid Blues. He also only plays on the neck pickup. Bob Margolin and Duke Robullard also play some decent blues with a Strat as well.
deefstes As it happens I have spent a large part of today watching Gary Moore videos. So obviously my day has been dominated by Les Pauls but the strat pack performance did catch my attention again and blew me away again. In fact, I just posted this thread earlier, where you can see this absolute wizard of a guitarist weave magic with a strat: http://www.guitarforum.co.za/youtube-guitar-videos/what-are-these-two-chords/
ZarK I picked up a new Fender Strat yesterday. Still needs a setup but I've had a sneak peek at that unmistakable tone... Sold my previous Strat almost 8 years ago vowing I'd never get another... Did I miss the tone? ...Without a doubt! :-[ :-[
domhatch deefstes, thanks. alone in the office, speakers on ten, kickin back and listenin to gary wail. ooooooooooooh yeah...
TS10 Recently sold two Ibanezes to fund the purchase of a '79 Reissue 2003 MIJ Strat in Antigua finish....best move ever...loving it so much it is scary. I used a friend's US strat for a few years in my previous band and the tone was amazing, was nervous that my MIJ would not match up but boy was I wrong - while it is true that there is a huge variation amongst strats in tone & playability, that signature strat sound is a happy constant in most I have played. More than that, once you have one in your hands and all that history etc swirls aorund your head, your playing improves 15% already just like magic ? My 5c, go for it and dont look back!
Garren Strat's are awesome ? Nothing gets me through the day quite like getting to play my strat when I get home ? And imho nothing better than a strat into a fender valve amp ? Ok... let me redefine that statement before anyone points any epic amps :-[ imho Fender guitars sound great through fender valve amps ?
MikeM Can't really get more iconic than a Strat + Tube Screamer + Deluxe Reverb. Ok well maybe a Marshall and LP....
