A while back I subscribed to these two mags. Acoustic Guitar is US and Acoustic is UK. So, I've had one or two hitches with both and let me tell you about them becasue I think that it was Guitarboy(a few numbers) who changed his name (which is always fishy hey) who was asking about Acoustic Guitar. No sooner had I hit the submit and payed for Acoustic Guitar than a darned mag arrives at my house. Sort of quickjer than the electronics can flow but I was so damned impressed that I told you all about it and then waited for the next one. A couple of months I waited but nothing came and I said nothing here because I felt like a bit of a skaap about it.
Anyway, so I finally send them a mail and say what's up? And some bird replies and say that they had in error send the May copy to everyone who was an electronic subscriber and that my subscription to the hardcopy would arrive after my electronic subscription expires in November but I said stand back please, because I want hardcopy now. She said no that cant happen this is just the way it is. I said some more things but she ducked for cover. A few weeks later she mails me and says she has achieved the virtually impossible and brought my subscription for the hardcopy a couple months forward or backward depending on how you want to look at it.
So at the beginning of last month I get the August edition. OK whatever. And today they tell me at home that I got the October issue. Check the date and 6000 miles away or so. Anyway, no complaints. The mag is thin but the content isn’t too bad and it’s cheap. And they do give you sites where you can go and listen to demos of kit and pieces of tuition and so forth.
Now, as far as the UK Acoustic mag is concerned there have also been some issues. They confirmed my subscription and said that anyday I should get my first copy. This was quite a few months back. I swear on my next door neighbor’s mother’s life that I waited almost two months and nothing came. So I mailed the subs dept and waited a few days and finally a dear lady called Ruth mails me and says OK it has been sent to the mailing house a long time ago – in fact two issues have already been sent. Waited a few weeks more and I mailed her and said no nothing got here yet. So she said she would mail them off to me herself directly. I said thanks and sorry for the trouble. Lo and behold the next day I get a mag in my post box. But I said nothing. Then about a week later I get three issues in one big envelope straight from old Ruth. And a week later I get another one but from the mailing house I estimate. So I’ve got a lot of magazines in the house some the same as the other but anyway.
And then I waited again for the next one. I waited a long time and nothing came. So I mailed Ruth again. Very humbly telling her that this po’ boy from the 3rd world so enjoyed the previous copies (in duplicate) but the followons weren’t getting here. Once again she said that all had gone to the mailing house and should have arrived a long time ago. And she resolved there and then that she would be mailing me my copies personally henceforth. Ag I received her dispatches and I also received the mailing houses’ because I suppose that she revved them up a bit. So I’ve got a lot of Acoustic (UK) mags.
Acoustic is quite a fat mag and the content is also OK. But not wonderful. Also not that expensive. They’ve got plenty ads (as does the US one) and some with sites of upcoming festivals like the Great British Slide Guitar festival which I go to and just read about some fat guy who complains that no one responded to his efforts and now he is bankrupt and the festival isn’t happening. Something like that it was the first copy.
Will I renew my subscription to these two? I think so it’s not very expensive – comes to about 500 bucks ZA each for 12.
Listen, I’m going to go out and see I can find something to hold me down otherwise I’ll carry on like this all night.
