Most valve amps haven't got a headphone jack for private playing. So I, and many others I'm sure, just cannot justify buying a decent valve amp because I can't play it at home without being a bother to everybody else. Even the 5w amps are too loud, and they just look , well, not as cool as their big brothers.
So I have been thinking. Will it be possible to build an adaptor thingamajig with a headphone out that you can connect in the amps line-out port? Like a pedal, but one that you can plug the phones into and use with any amp? I know the speakers add to the amp's tone, but they make emulated 'phone outs allready, so that could be part of the unit. Maybe different models for different speaker configurations? So, what do you reckon, is it do-able, or not?

Get yourself a POD-type thing. That's the best solution for headphone play.

you could also look at getting yourself a little thingy that plugs into your guitar. i have one - you can get it in marshall and vox guise, maybe even others, i dunno. it's just a little thingy, plugs right into your output thingy on your guitar, and you plug your headphones directly into it. you can get a clean tone and varying degrees of 'drive' with a little 'knob'. takes one or two batteries. good for guitar practice, but not much else.
i have been led to believe, and i therefore stand under correction, that tube amps require the speaker to carry the output load, or something like that. (line out good, so long as speaker is also working kinda thing.) if what i have been led to believe is correct, sticking a something into the amp that cuts the speaker out of the way the whole thing works, might not be the best plan.
good luck

Amplug is another alternative. Quite good, but obviously not a real amp.
I am on a completely different path. Not there yet, but well on my way. The idea is to take a HK red box and a speaker-simulating-power-resistor to load a tube amp but still be able to pick up the signal. Then, put the signal into a desk or recording device and listen to the headphone output. All I need to still do to finish the setup is assemble the power resistor...
The advantage of this setup in my opinion would be that you can work on your sound while practicing, something that the plugs and pods mentioned do not allow for.

I use my m-audio with pro-tools for headphone jamming!
