Tru-oil?

Have any of you guys everused this for a natural finish? Done quite a bit of research on the net and seems like something I'd quite like to use. I see its available on Bid or Buy, but do you reckon I can get it from hardware stores - planning on doing a bit of shopping today!

A good hardware store will have something similar. It's just a polymerized drying oil finish.

It's actually a gun stock finish.

Personally I'd use it for a neck, but not for a body.. It's too expensive ? But it can produce lovely results on a body.

Mission failed ☹ Tried a couple of the big hardware stores here in Edenvale and a couple in Woomead too, but nothing... Bid or Buy will be R160 for what looks like 90ml, which I doubt will be enough for a guitar body? And then its waiting about a week to get that. Bummer

How are you planning to finish it? Have you considered Tung oil or alternatives like that?

Correct. Made by Birchwood-Casey. Try your local Gun Shops.

Thanks all - will try the gun shop route and call around in the morning. Considered other similar options but really like the look the Tru Oil gives. Will keep you updated

Hey Giggsy, I can also recommend tru oil - from what I've seen it's a fantastic finish. You might need about 100ml for a body, depending on how many coats you do.

I'm quite sure they don't have tru oil. Tung oil and Danish oil yes.

Thought they would be a good bet but hardly ever head out that way - dealt with them in the past in a different capacity and always helpful

Aww.. Did you contact the guy who Ray mentioned?

Nope, but I think I saw online that they do have it - didnt feel like a treck out there though. Could get it on Bid or Buy - R110 plus R50 delivery - but that would have taken a week
