Agreed 100%. Mistakes happen. The pressure was huge on live TV. It wasn't on purpose or for lack of respect for the anthem.
We're talking about a guy who demonstrated his level of patriotism to SA rugby by saying he would shave off his dreadlocks if the Boks lost to the All Blacks at FNB Stadium last year. He did it as a show of support for the Boks and after they lost ended up dread-less. I don't think this was revenge for the lost locks... ?
To me it looked like he was having trouble with the chord changes which seemed to distract him from the lyrics. He said he was overcome with emotion and nerves in the moment. Whatever the case and the cause, he flubbed it. That doesn't mean it can be entirely excused, but surely it can be forgiven?
