why do you want to go so heavy on string gauge?
Well as Alan said it is very common in Jazz to have thick guages. Pat Metheny (a jazz guitarist) uses 17's or 18's ??? now thats insane. I have never ventured past 11's so I wanna give it a try. Also for more technical playing it will be better to get thick, as I do not intend on bending. Thicker guages also have a warmer tone as well as having more sustain (so I have read). But really its just another way to get me more into that 'jazz sound'.

as an aside where do you take your guitar for setup?
I havn't taken it anywhere yet. Apparently there is a good guy called Foster (may have name wrong) who is good with stuff like that. I can give you his details. Also, I still have your pedal, its nicely soldered and all, I must drop it off, so you can finally use it ?.
