Well... the latter song doesn't have that big Link Wrayish throb that's just begging for a bit of filth.
In fact, I must check out what LL have been up to these last few years - I know they are more than "the band that covered La Bamba for the film", but have never really looked into them deeply beyond the early Mex-influenced stuff.
I had a couple of their discs a while back. Very early ones. "Will The Wolf Survive" was one. I wouldn't mind revisiting them (so to speak). I know they tried to update their sound in the 90s and hired Mitchell Froom to help with the productions. They played at Thompson's wedding many years ago (along with David Lindley) so I guess there's some mutual admiration going on there.
