ORIGINAL STORY:
The classic line-up of Black Sabbath - singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward - has officially reformed and has started rehearsals for a tour and a possible new studio album.
Often cited as the most influential band in heavy metal history, the classic line-up of Black Sabbath hasn't performed together since 2006. Much talk of a reunion has circulated in recent years (Osbourne stated recently that he wouldn't rule out getting back together on one condition: if "Geezer will stop moaning"), but nothing concrete has happened... until now.

According to MetalTalk.net, Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward came to a decision 14 days ago to go ahead with the reunion, and this morning (Monday 15 August) the group convened in a secret rehearsal studio to begin to begin working on a live set - and what will hopefully be a new album.

More news as it develops.
UPDATE:
In an interview with the Birmingham Mail, Tony Iommi confirmed that he and Ozzy Osbourne began writing songs for a new Black Sabbath album in June (2011). The band have also begun rehearsing for a forthcoming tour, with the new album set for a 2012 release.

Iommi commented: "We're really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we've been writing is really good. It's more back to the old original stuff."

I think this will end up being a big pile o'.... fun ?
I think this will be quite scary. At least they will be giving work to paramedics and caregivers etc.

Black sabbath reunion? is it that time of the decade already?

The plot thickens. Following yesterday's widespread reports of a Black Sabbath reunion tour and new studio album, last night (16 August) saw Tony Iommi post a statement on his official website that has possibly only added to the confusion.

The full statement is as follows:

"I'm saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a Black Sabbath reunion.

"At the time I was supporting the Home of Metal exhibition and was merely speculating, shooting the breeze, on something all of us get asked constantly, "Are you getting back together?"

"Thanks to the internet it's gone round the world as some sort of "official" statement on my part, absolute nonsense. I hope he's enjoyed his moment of glory, he won't have another at my expense.

"To my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better.

            "All the best, Tony."

As far as we can see, all that Iommi's post does is to deny the fact that his comments as quoted in the Birmingham Mail represent any kind of official statement. However, other publications have read it as the metal guitar legend shooting all talk of a reunion down in flames.
              ???

It would have been cool if it was for real...

Crap journalism by musicradar and the Birmingham Picayune then. Don't they check their stories before publishing?

To many "news" sites these days really just repeat gossip.

Ozzy and Iommi are both 63 this year. Younger than Clapton. They're not too old to be touring.

I saw Danny Thompson playing in Richard Thompson's band a few years ago and he was 68 then. Danny's been on the road this year - with Donovan, Pentangle, and Martin Simpson... he's 72 now and he's had a pacemaker since 2003 at least.

Some things might get a bit undignified, but you can be 60 plus and tour.

I get your point Bob, but Danny doesn't have to pretend to be in a metal band with leather pants etc. He also looks quite good for 72, this cannot be said of BS though ?

I was at Cresta's Pick and Pay on Saturday and I saw Deep Purple's latest Album for dirt cheap, thought I would get it just to hear Steve Morse. And it's a sad reflection of a band that pioneered Hard Rock 40 years ago, Ian Gillian sounds more C&W than Hard Rock, and Steve Morse is playing the same riffs that Blackmore did all those years ago.

I am not against touring beyond 60, look at Robert Plant, completely reinvented himself and still looks dignified.

Agreed there. I got The Cure's Trilogy concert on Blu-Ray the other day and it's great, but Robert Smith looks a bit silly with his smeared lipstick and crazy hair along with his middle-aged spread. His songs have great melodies and hooks, the lyrics still have plenty of impact...I'd actually like to just see him drop the "sad clown" schtick for once.

Ha! In his hell raising "prime" Danny would have drunk Black Sabbath and their entire road crew under the table. I'm not sure that he's proud of that, but he did live hard for some years (there are several tales about his and John Martyn's ordering of "double quadruples" at various bars) and lived to tell the tale. Teetotal these days. And yes... he doesn't have to wear lots of studs and leather and wave maloiks at the crowd and bite off bats heads and stuff.

Don't think he's going through the motions though. He's still a marvellous player and gives it loads of welly (musically).

Age doesn't mean that you can't be inventive, but it doesn't guarantee inventiveness either.

                            Haha

The thing with the stones is that they have looked like this for many years!

I think Keith is looking better now than he did 20 years ago ?
                              13 years later

                              Well now, one final show.

going to try get a ticket. But I fear price is going to eclipse my wallet. Plus demand

                              we wait n see.

the cheapest ticket was 197 quid for the cheap seats with a less than stellar view, going up to 2952 for posh tickets with some beer and food thrown in.

so I was on a presale , went into the queue and by the time I got to the front the only left in the presale were 402 and 2952 tickets. I decided there and then that if I buy 2 I am in for 1200 with hotel and beer/ food so just could not justify it. ( As reference, the missus and I going on a 4 night cruise with a ll food an beer thrown in for 700)

I then joined the general sale and was 78000th something in the queue. I immediately logged out, villa park only holds 42000 and the pre sales probably sold at least half of that.

The queue went to over 120000 at one point. Why did people hold on. Media was full of tales of woe.

word on the street is that ozzy is kaput and will probably mime and/or the BS songs will actually be sung by others. Which kinda makes sense when you see the number of vocalists on the bill without their bands.

good to see Jake e Lee on the bill. Would love to see him. Hope the event is live-streamed. Hope Sharon really needs the cash and runs a live stream.
