Alan, im looking forward to your review on Dimarzio Air Zone Pup
Why wait? It's gonna be a while to get around to the actual review, but I can give you the short version now: Great!
Now for the slightly longer, but still short version ? : Pretty much how DiMarzio describe it. Scooped sound - lots of bass response to make up for a bright guitar or a basswood body/Floyd Rose type shredder, but a much lower output. So if you like the tonal balance of the Tone Zone, but don't like the over-the-top output, this is probably what you are looking for. It does have the almost vocal "ow" sound when you dig in, much like a good PAF, but with more balls.
Really expressive and dynamic, growls when you dig in and even with some drive it cleans up nicely when you back off the volume control. It loves an amp on the verge, so you get to control how much crunch you get out of the two by modifying how you play. Works well clean, crunchy and dirty without ever losing definition, even driven hard. Parallels really well and the split coil tone is one of the best I've heard for a humbucker.
