Mother of Pearl / Abalone

Hi Guys,

I recently stumbled onto this forum and would like to know if you guys have any information regarding where I can source MOP/Abalone from to use as inlays on a guitar im currently building.

I found this site: www.luthiersupply.com

My question is, has anyone used them to get MOP? What are the laws regarding imports of these products? What alternatives can you suggest for using as inlays on the headstock?

StewMac are not permitted to sell shell products overseas.
Go thru Oz and NZ, namely:

If you can track down the Knife -making suppliers, you'll be well on your way. Tho it's not easy . . . . ..

Just another question, I've never bought products like these before, are there no laws against bringing these products into South Africa? Are the laws that stop Stewmac etc from shipping only because of US export laws?

I've googled this topic extensively and struggle to find information about it! I just don't want to spend a lot of money and then have customs confiscate it that's all!
