Looks fantastic man, congrats. ?
I like the open cavity with the springs, too pretty to drill. Great photos as well.
Gearhead
So... When are you going to put it in the classifieds? Seems to be fashionable these days ?
MikeM
@Gecko, It's quite different from your shadowburst, not as ghosty looking, both are awesome though!
@Alan, it's also very, VERY comfortable. Slight U on the treble side and C on the bass side.
@Makepeace, hahah it definitely needs a logo!!
@Rein, thanks, it was a bitch to get the lighting right.
@Gearhead, Same time I list the Gibson ?

Probably the nicest neck I've ever had my hands on ☹

Man... I just paged through this whole thread again... If I ever have the guts to put together a la cabronita I'm sooooo getting the body and neck from Marc Rutters (the pictures have also cemented black and white as the colour scheme... pure class)!
Ps what is the deal with the controls on the guitar? Has it got some funky wiring at the moment that it only uses two knobs (I'm assuming the middle is a pot without a knob)? Which Kinmans did you go with?
guidothepimmp
so how does the ol goose sound?
Sean
The Custom Strat and the R8...what more would you want? ?
Really a stunning looking guitar Mike ?
MikeM
@Rikus, the controls are waiting a few decisions.. Lol. I currently just have the 5 way switch with a "blower" type switch, which swaps from the 5 way, to a hot tap on the middle pup. Really handy and sounds great!
I'm considering putting a super switch in, which would allow me to have a standard 5 way switching system, but only have tone controls in the neck and bridge position (Not the in betweens, cause that reduces quack/chirp). Then I'd also consider wiring the push pulls as a phase inverter, and a switch to select neck + bridge (and bypass the 5 way).
I can't recommend Marc highly enough. He's been very helpful, amazing to work with and this instrument is just quality.
@Guido, I've avoided this because people might just think I am biased and trying to validate my purchase.
Let me be clear, I was HUGELY worried about receiving a dud. The nature of a strat is that isn't NOT always the sum of the parts. Sometimes things just don't work. In this case, they have. I don't know if Marc is a tonal genius or something, but this is a really nice guitar.
It's very attacky, and has a good amount of pleasing treble. I.e it's bright without being harsh. It has very, very solid bass and for the first time I can explain it as piano like.
Nico might chime in on how it sounds, I don't mind him being honest, I mean he does like teles after all ?
@Sean, well I also have that cool MIC Tokai P90 guitar, a 80's Iceman with a Dimarzio in to play heavy stuff, a nice classical and a reasonable acoustic. I'm really set now. Only thing to give me gas now is amps ? and that'd only be from dreaming up something to build!

white pickguard white tortie pickguard.
Fixed ?
Sorry, but the one with the black pickguard is THEE most metal and probably the most beautifull Strat I ever beheld....
MikeM
Thanks Chaps!
No problem Hammeron, each to their own. I prefer mine ?

Mike, don't get me wrong, yours is an absolute beaut!

Hey Mike
Glad to see that you finally have her/ him.
Question? I noted you saying that you're probably going to pull the wiring and make a few changes. Howcome? Was the guitar wiring set up like it is now as sort of a generic set-up or were you asked to specify what you wanted? (parts, components, switches etc?) or have tastes just changed?
MikeM
I had Marc build me the neck and body.. The rest I pretty much did myself. The wiring I had done neatly in a prep guitar, just haven't had the spare cash to buy the last 2 pots to finish it up.

gotcha

Quoted because this guitar deserves to be seen again and again. Congrats Mike! I'm not a Strat guy, but I reckon this one could turn me...

It is gorgeous mike ?
Seeing as it is similar to the Fender select... was it still worth it having one custom made in your opinion?
Or, had the select range been available back then, would you have considered one instead?
and how does your custom build compare price wise to the $2000 approximate street price of the select strat??
