So I saw an add in a local guitar mag for Albion Amplification, apparently it's the brainchild of Steve Grindrod who worked for Marshall & Vox amps.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like Albion is either a completely new brand of amps or they decided to rename Wharfdale amps.
Don't think people liked the idea of owning a Wharfdale amp it seems.

Either way, have anyone tried them out?
Your opinions?

    Charlie, where have you been??

Yes, they were wharfedale! But its mostly because it doesnt say Fender / Marshall / Vox, people dont want it.
    Regardless of the good tone!

I myself want the TCT35 Head and cab combo! its GREAT!!!

I was about to say w....w.......wharfdale..........Honestly, I don;t mind them.........
HA ! Seems I was a bit behind on this Norman. Read a few topics now and it seems they are good bang for the buck.
I'm actually quite curious about those Albion cabs cause those prices are very good.
Do you think they'll be able to handle low end and gain the way a Vintage 30 does?
Charlie, best you go try one out hey!
The GLS 212 cab with the TCT35 head sounds fantastic to my ears!
you dont get super high gain, but for what i personally want out of an amp, it provides everything i want! Due to reasons though, i havent been able to buy it yet!

Similar sounding amps are the Fender Deluxe VM and Mesa Boogie 5:50.

I own the ALbion TCT35 COMBO Amp. Bought it from Blackie Swart's shop here in Harties. I am only a beginner (Started about Feb. this year.)

I bought it on recommendation from BLackie as he was blown away by this amp. I am very very happy with it. I play blues etc. and the clean sound of my Pure PAF Humbuckers from Fralin pickups is awesome. I am not sure if I am using the correct term, but the amp is very versatile and a small amount of drive gives a very nice "SMOKEY" blues sound. Two channels, it comes with footswitch and the speaker inside is a 80W, 16 ohm ALBION affair, which is a MONSTER. It has Reverb as well and the manual states that this is modelled with fancy circuitry. The TCT35 Drive sound, sounds much better to my ears than the Fender Deluxe I also tried. (I speak under correction but i recall that I could only get a 15W Fender valve amp for the price of the TCT35..)

I am very happy with the amp and would urge anyone looking for GReat sound at a reasonable price to go and try it out.
Looks like i am gonna bethe party-pooper here.

I tried them last year, head n cab, and the gain channel sounded extremely generic, to the point of being described as "bland".
Neither the PRS, Ibanez or Tele helped me to get a tone i want to write home about.
Sorry, but they did not do it for me.
              YMMV
NO Party poopers here ? Is that not the point of a forum? To agree to disagree??

I have to qualify my rave about the amp as follows:

I don't really use the high gain settings much and my terms of reference is obviously very limited being a beginner. For what I am currently doing it really is a nice amp.

Who knows one day I might "grow" out of it, but in the meantime I have build a 5W British Overdrive amp (from a kit) which I totally love. To be honest High gain sound is not my priority at the moment.

SO please note, as I mentioned in my original post, I am a rank noob at this and my comments should be seen in this context.

You have probably heard 100's of amps and therefor your opinion will mean more in this thread to anyone interested in the ALBION amps. Still, the best advice is probably to go an try one and make up your own mind..

                Cheers
Different strokes... It's all still good though. Personally I never took to Marshalls or Mesas, but they are still good amps - I just prefer Vox/Fender tones.

Uhm, which range did you try?
SS or valve?? which Valve? the tct35 has 6l6 valves, the tct50 and 100 have el34's...

It was the 6L6 driven 35 head.
I love a lot of 6L6 amps, my Bassman, the very 1st Mesa MKI, Silvertone 1484 (wow), Cornford Roadhouse 30 (bloody WOW), Victoria 35210 (28W amp) and a few others.

That doesn't do the amp any justice at all. Bad player, bad sounding room, too much drive when he should be clean, too much reverb, the video mic is picking up the acoustic sound from the guitar and the video cam is compressing the audio.

The Ant Glynn clip is far better:

But even there, I notice that channel one drive has a gritty quality and a loose low end that not everyone is going to like. Tastes vary...

So when you getting one Norman?

At this moment, im still in a bit of a budget crisis :-\
So as soon as budget allows!! ?

                            So...
I had a fortunate turn of events...
And i have placed my order for the Albion TCT 35 Head, and the GLS 212 Cabinet...
(Along with another SnapJack cable with 2 straight ends!)

So i am hopefully getting it soon!

Thanks to John Silver and Mike Pepper at Audiosure for getting the amps to me to test originally, as well as Sam (owner) at Musicmate Boksburg!

Also hopeful that i get the original Cherry stained wood and not the black... While the black is nice, the cherry is nicer imo!
me wanty hot amp! where else are they available to look-see? anyone know?
dom, if you dont come right with getting a store to get you one to test out, contact audiosure to help you out! I can help you out with details if you like??

Personally, i prefer the head and cab version to the combo!
                                Thats what i have ordered!!

Music Connection have had one lying around for ages. You could probably get a good deal on it.
