Testing out my new POD HD400

I've had my new POD for about two weeks now. I'm loving it, I much prefer it to using my toneport and guitar rig for recording. I've moved on to Reaper for recording, mixing and mastering purposes. In fact, this is the first time I've ever mastered a track before.. all I did was use a limiter and compressor and took it as far as a could before it started to clip. Any tips on the mastering process would be greatly appreciated.

All the presets I used were ones that I created. I'm still working on them, but I think I got some decent sounds for a week's worth of knob twiddling.

Any thoughts, suggestions on how I could improve this mix?

For drums I used EZdrummer pop/rock kit (I'm over DFH - I don't dig the samples).

Good job dude! Took a simple riff and made it work very very well. And the POD sounds very nice!! Nice tones!

That heavy rhythm guitar sounds thick and beafy, very nice.

The drums sound better than your previous song I think, but they need some reverb on them to fill up the mix a little more. Especially the snare.

Guitars really sound nice. Ok at 2:10 the breakdown palm mutes sound a little nasal. Nothing serious, sweep the eq around and lower some of those freqs, somewhere between 700-1500? Just opinion, as always...

Sweet thanks, I've been trying quite hard with the EQ on the drums. I'm pretty keen to move to Steven Slate Drums... from what I've heard the samples are far superior to EZdrummer (out the box that is). I shall fiddle around a bit more with this mix and will post the final result at some stage.

I'm just waiting for the vocalist to get back to me with some lyrics!
