I know andrewjbryson is using it, so he'll probably give me an answer.

Is it worth it?
The guy at the shop told me it has a 15GB library of drum samples from acoustic sets to ethinc percussion to orchestral percussion

Would anyone recommend it, or something else maby i can go look at.

I downloaded a trial version of battery 3 obviously didn't get the library. I would say that that the interface is like 6 out of 10. As a plug in it's fairly lean doesn't eat up too much cpu or memory.

Is it worth it?

I think you really paying for the 15GB of samples

EZdrummer has impressed me but again only have a short demo. Personally I would love to have a realistic drum kit but the cost benefit doesn't pan out for me at the moment

I have used many different drum samples (Reason3,4 , Hypersonic 1,2) and Battery 3 has the best and most natural sounding kits...
They arent overcompressed like most samples. The "POP Kit" is the most usable sounding kit. They also have loads of experimental kits, where you can have some fun , eg Armageddon Kit.

anyhows I recommend it if you want to take programmed drumming to the next level.

Then that is what i'm going to do.

Is there ethnic,african and whatever drum samples as well? You know, to create a real mean drum kit.
I only want to buy it one time and be able to use it for all the percussion stuff i do.

I'll be honest, I've never tried Battery because of the lack of hype behind it.

EZ drummer or Drumkits From Hell Superior (DKHS 2 is out now) which is the flag ship of Toontrack software.

But even though DKFH 2 has been released I haven't tried it but I know the snares have a tendency to sound too thin and pretty...well...programmed. But you have control over almost EVERYTHING from Mic bleed to ambient tracks.

The Program I use constantly and have fooled people into thinking it was real, is Addictive drums (Major online hype). With this you have few samples compared to DKFH but they sound waay better (the whole Quantity vs Quality thing)
With this you can control the snare chain buzzing when you hit other drums and you can adjust the level of the other drums in the the room mics.
My only problem with it is the lack of Cymbals. You're only allowed two crashes, Ride and hats. For some people it's enough but for me it forces me to open up another instance of AD just for more cymbals which means slower PC's will suffer for those with weaker PC specs.

But it's the Quality and realism of the drum sounds that I'm after when programming drums, so I'll risk it ?

Battery is cool if you want something you can load samples into (like the Bob Clearmountain sets) to make your own kits. Great if you've got the time and want control...

I'm trying EZ drummer and it's very nice and easy to use. Decent level of control - enough for most people. I'm impressed enough that I am going to try Superior Drummer (also from Toontrack).
