Komplete 8 & Guitar Rig Pro 5

Just got the email today that Komplete 8 and Guitar Rig Pro 5 have been released. Those evil, evil Berlinners at NI. (This is fresh-ish news right? I don't really keep up.) In my ripe old age I'm finding it increasingly difficult to generate a good head of GAS for any guitar anymore. Software, on the other hand... Any thoughts on Guitar Rig Pro 5? Significant improvements in the amp modeling similar to the POD -> POD HD step change? Or mainly just the same? Or too new to tell? Anyone have Komplete 7? Which parts of it do you use? I'd love more synths to mess around with... I have Absynth, that is one complicated beast. I love them 'evolving soundscapes' but maybe Massive is more capable of generating just "normal" synth sounds. Of course, a great way to produce NO music, at all, is to keep toying around with music software. Must therefore avoid. Maybe.

lmfao... nice definitions majestikc... hehehehe. You forgot to add the silkiness of triphop though... pffft... and a choir. Not someone who is too poor to afford a clip of Bruce Willis and that classic little phrase. Not to sound too ignorant (that leaves a gap to sound ignorant) but thats not the dubstep i'll be going for.

Had to find a tutorial cos like the majority here, mostly a rocker myself. Even got a book. One of those things with pages... will figure out how to use it one day... right now its something to swat bees with atm... ?

That clip had cool phrasings towards the last two minutes though. But hell that thing is long... I weened myself off of 10/15 minute opuses down to 3:30 a long time ago... wonder if there is taste in the genre...

Anyway, its learning year for me... woohoo!!! Fugues, species counterpoint, chorales... and what I mentioned above. To get stuff sounding akin to massive attack/portishead is my goal.... no matter which road I take, it'll be a learning one.... hence the super jealousy wif bmu's latest toy... ☹

Electronica subgenres often seem to be defined around a single sound...? Like wubwub for dubstep. I mean I know dubstep sounds like that, but I didn't know that defined the boundaries of the subgenre. To each their own, it has its place. (More tolerable than some 100 year old guitar subgenres, you know that stuff associated with crossroads and boring three chord songs that should've died gracefully some time ago ? )

@Evo...errr whatwetalkinabout? Lost you at manual. What toys are you using there? More rockers into synths, cool. It's all music.

Hmmm... where to start. WEll, it's just the generic things. I only have an old komplete... and the synths from Sonar 7 and 8 (I only installed sonar so I could use them, lol. I think 7 had a large Dimension Pro and 8 had a full version of rapture). The stuff in Reason4. And whatever is new in cubase 5 (yeah.... 6 is out now, I know... sux). Requiem light (choir) and other vocal libraries that use kontakt 4. Miroslav philharmonik (in its old state of denial and age and screwed up legato, but it kinda works... kinda)

Because I mostly like cinematic soundscapes, my libraries match the intended. The dubstep tutorial I have just uses whats available in cubase 5... and that pleased me. I know that if I ever need a synth to do what I want, then I must open Reaktor's manual (holy crap on this manual) and make one. I read on some forum that its taken a guy 2 years to build something decent. That scared me into submission. And I'm not Trent Reznor so yeah... *shrugs*

I read that omnisphere is shockingly brilliant - but you got the better end of that deal imo... lotsa goodies to play with.

And yeah man... manual. Some kind of new age thing I think. Open it and it goes Aum.... wubwubwubwub...

Reaktor? That's not for people who want to make music, it's for synth science geeks haha. Sounds good, you have a sh*load of stuff there then. No reason software has to be new to work well. (In fact with Cubase my experience has been that it's a fantastic idea to lag a little until they get all the bugs sorted.)

Portishead is mostly about sampling, old skool hip hop style, same as Cypress Hill (one of my favourites) etc

Good luck getting that style/vibe with vsti's, you'll have better luck getting hold of a bunch of old jazz and film scores from the 30's 40's 50's etc.

Let me see if I can't do something along those lines then post it up.

Here's something I just whipped up, 85% of it is ennio morricone stuff chopped up and mangled and pitched etc, the drums are just a loop I processed and the bass is some jazz loop. (it's not quite the same but you get the idea)
