Information on my Gibson

Hey guys

I'm posting here cause for the past week or so I've gotten really interested in a Gibson my parents bought back in 2005 while vacationing in the states. Let me first explain.
They bought it way back when I was still naive and very new to playing guitar. It has seen a lot, and I mean a lot of playing and gigging, so it does have a few scratches and bumps but that just makes it more beautiful to me.
I have been playing a PRS SE Custom 24 for the past 3 years now and it is by far my favourite guitar. So my Gibson has been lying in it's case for almost 3 years now and recently just got interested in it again. It needs a set up and a clean up but still looks and plays amazing.

Now I have emailed Gibson with pictures so to find out more on the model cause I am not too sure (As I mentioned I bought it back when I was young) but they have not emailed me back in two weeks.
Can anyone give more more information on this guitar? Model specifically? I used a website to find out (Guitar Dater Project) using my serial number and got this info. Looks about right :

Like I mentioned, it has a lot of scratches. On the back where I whore my belt (I know, stupid)

Bumps on headstock

Strap broke once and broke of the tuning knob but managed to salvage it

And the plate at the bottom where cable plugs into

And the case is original

How much does these ussually retail for these days? Guess mine would loose a lot of value if I do decide to sell it one day (wich is not going to happen likely).

so, not being a gibson fundi, i'll just go with sticking my neck out. probably an lp standard, colour either honey burst or tobacco burst, more likely the latter. retail? no idea. i wouldn't worry about the bumps and scratches, so long as they don't impede playability or tone, or unless you intend to keep this as an investment piece - although not really my first choice for that purpose.

hope gibson gets back to you soon. and whether i'm right or wrong about the model/colour, someone here will sort me out. either way, you should get the info you seek soon enough...

I think you're right. It's Standard.

@ Se7en, .... about the retail value..... why do you need to know this, unless you are planning to sell. Brand new, about R21,000 AFAIK. ... but you can get a better price.
You seem to have all the info so I'm not too sure what else it is you wanna know. ..... but like Norman says, the fundis will be on it ..... just chill, and check in tomorrow. ...

That is actually a good question Aubs1. I really only use my PRS for live playing now and wanted to use this guitar as my "backup" guitar incase something happens. Was "thinking" of insuring it but I know that it would be a massive amount if the guitar is worth a lot. I'd rather spend extra buying another guitar (PRS SE again ? ) than to loose this to a thieve or worse.

Yay a Gibson thread...i gotta jump in!! ?.

1) Awesome guitar!! For most people a Gibson like that would be their first and only guitar, so consider yourself privileged to have it as a back up, ?.
2) It is def a Les Paul (LP) standard.
3) It would be described as a tobacco sunburst. Although i'm not 100%. I know that there are 2 kinds. One is a normal tobacco burst and there is another kind called vintage burst. The latter has a yellowish center. Just by looking at the photos i cant really tell, but i would guess its just a normal burst. Also it seems like the burst might also fit under the faded burst family, but those usually don;t have a glossy finish like yours.
4) The dings and scratches don't really matter as long as they don't hinder playability, as someone mentioned.

Thanks so much for all the replies guys, I've done a whole afternoon of researc on the web and it seems like you guys are correct. LP Standard Sunburst. I'm not concerned about the scratches and bumps, it sound amazing.

I am really regretting letting it sit and gather dust all these years. It needs a proper clean and set up and will look into getting it shiny very soon. If my back wasn't so girlish I'd play with it a lot more (thing is so heavy)

It's a 2005 Les Paul Standard...retail about R31,000.00

It's not heavy at all, it's chambered, hollowed out, probably under 9 lbs...about 1.5 lbs heavier than a regular Strat.

Very cool looking guitar.
