Which pedal to buy first?

Hey all you gigging musicians out there ?

As a bit of a pedal noob I just want to know what
you would recommend I buy first. I already have a
wah but I'm sure a tuner would be quite important,

I'm currently using a fender strat through a '68 bassman
with a 4x10 cab, I would also love some kind of reverb
or delay type effect, any recommendations of specific
pedals ( Honestly I'm not looking for the holy grail
of delay or reverb but a pedal that will do the trick and
be pretty reasonable)

I'd recommend the Nova Repeater. So good that I bought one ?

It's a delay pedal, but you can usually get a slight reverb effect out of a delay. Worth looking up, cheap, super easy to use, and very versatile.

The Nova Repeater looks insane, but at this point all the modes and settings scare me a bit :-[
That dynamic delay feature looks incredible though, that must be super fun to mess around with 8)

The memory toy looks right up my alley, 3 knob analog delay seems perfect. If I recall correctly
after reading that thread on amp settings you also use a bassman? ?

Oky so I'd recommend:

Memory toy: simple, good analog delay - $100

Melekko ekko616:also simple if you want
it to be that is,has modulation and a
longer delay time with the option
of trails when you bypass it, but
most importantly, sounds grate. -$150

Earthquaker devices disaster transport JR:
Amazing, analog voiced digital delay
Yet really simple, this is the version
without modulation, it has a tone knob
for the repeats that allows you to do
So many amazing things. -$165

Earthquaker devices dispatch:
Its a 3 knob delay, with a single knob
for reverb, so both the things you what
In one box, 1700ms delay time.
BUT they will only be on the market in
about a month IIRC. -$175

PGS has demos of all of these pedals except the
Dispatch... ?

Looks like we have a simmilar rig there !

Reverb . . . i LOVE my Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Plus, what a great unit !
In fact, i swear by that one !

Delay, i have several, and love 'em all :

Ibanez DE7 - Carl Martin DelayLa XL - Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man (older big box model)

They all bring somehting very special to the table.
My next delay will be the much talked about Strymon El Capistan delay . . . and yes, i love delay, my biggets love, after fuzz boxes.

If you do not want to spend too much, but want a delay with serious mojo, i would look into the Ibanez DE7.

One of the MXR Phase 90s. Wah is a bit more of a personal choice, so you may have to try a few and see which suits you best.

Wah's are a very personal thing.

3 of my giging friends swear ONLY by the Parachute wah (made in Chicago, if i remember correctly)
If you want to know how it sounds in a band mix/CD, just listen to the entire Shrinebuiler CD (they only have one out)
Wino makes good use of the Parachiue on those tracks.

I have an old Jimi Hendrix Fuzz-Wah, an love it, but . . .

. . . i am looking into two others aswell : the Dunlop Jerry Cantrell sig wah, and the Ernie Ball wah. (PS : i not an AIC fan, i just like his wah)

Phasers i know very little about.
It really depends what stage phaser you want ? 2-stage, 4-stage, 8-stage, 10-stage, 12 stage, it all denpends what you prefer !
The last time i looked into them, the MXR 100 (not the 90) was on my short list.
Needless to say, my DREAM PHASER is the all mighty Moog MF103 Stage Phaser, but i do not have to $$$ for that.

My brother asked me what is the diff's between all these stages, and the best i could asswer him (because you can NOT describe a phaser sound - well i can not) was by asking him :

. . . what engine tone do you prefer to listen too, just before they hit their red line ?

7.7L diesel Duramax V8 ? ... BMW M3 V8 ? ...hotrodded 1957 Chevy 327 small block V8 ? ... Ferrari 458 Italia V8 ? ... or a supercharged nitro snorting topfuel methane dragster V8 ?
They are all V8's, yet, very diff sounding.

And very personal . . .
