Could GFSA go down in the record books?

Manfred-Klose

Does anyone think GFSA could be largest forum in the world, someday maby.......

Well think of it,when the guys from the states, europe, asia, australia find out how much better this forum is than their forums, they'll join us. And soon we'll a big ass forum!!!

Currently a Anime forum holds the record:

Norio, did you ever think that this forum will become this huge?.....UNDER a YEAR!!!!!!!

What made you start the forum?

deanBailey

Wow biggest?? It would be cool tough lol

This place is just convenient with all the knowledgeable people in on convenient location ?

Wessel

To big might not be to good..And bigger is not always better ! Allot of stuf will go unread and some people will fade away in the masses. I actually like the family tipe thing going on around here.

I would also like to know the history of how the forum started.

Manfred-Klose

Norio, can you give us a indroduction!!

All we now is that he owns a Ibanez, play a boss ds-1 and have a little jack russel, and is going to be a father pretty soon.

P.S: Go indroduce yourself!!!!

Couldn't agree more. If you look at the busier forums like Harmony Central, topics progress so fast it's impossible to keep up with them. The tendency is just to skim through the new topics and just click on a few interesting ones. We're a lot more closely connected here, which is really nice. There also tends to be a lot more bad behaviour on a big forum as people are a lot more "faceless" and hidden behind anonymity. There is also a lot more meaningless and negative posting going on.

I've been a member of both Harmony Central and The Gear Page for four years, and I have a post count of only about 250 posts on each.
< Compare that to what I have posted here in just over 11 months. :-[

Thanks alan, Haven't read that one yet.

I was just checking out our growth over the last 2 months and thinking, jeez there really are a lot more computer literate rock guitarists in SA than I expected. Then I got to thinking, (rather selfishly), "I hope this bottoms out soon". I am finding it harder to keep up with all the goings on the forum and I am not reading everything. If I spend any more time on this forum then I will have to give up playing guitar LOL. So in short , (or my Telkom branded shorts) I hope we don't make the record books, I'd rather settle for quality than quantity.

Couldn't agree more, some days when I log on there are so many messages I just skip through to the ones that look interesting, problem is you only see the topic title, and not what was actually posted. Big forums are a nightmare, no matter how well you structure it. +1 Quality vs quantity

Why this is a bad idea: check the Ultimate Guitar forums. The text in even one of those topics is enough to compete with lord of the rings.
And about that much realism too. I say, quality over quantity ?

LMinnie

I couldnt agree more guys...

Although it's nice to see new members joining everyday(433),it shows that there are alot of guitarists out there in SA.
The downside of course and i can see it already is people joining and then never posting or participating.

Id say at the moment we have about 20 active members that are here everyday just to talk.

Where are the other 400 or so...

Lurking and learning probably. Same as any other forum. There are also a large number of people who visit here regularly but do not sign up - they just browse. I don't have a problem with either behaviour.

Renesongs

I belong to a few other forums where I just lurk because I don't have anything intelligent to add but hey that never stops me having my say here ?

Heath

the lurkers will come out of the closet when they feel ready , i suspect alot of ppl feel they not good enough to add anything good , which is wrong .
