Hi guys
During band practice over the weekend, we noticed that the Cort X1 and the Cort X5 have a very bass heavy sound. We tried turning the bass on the amp down completely while turning the tone on the guitar up, even fiddling with the mid's on the amp, but still it remains bass heavy - both on clean and distortion. Switching pickups also doesn't remedy the situation. We tried it through both a Vox AD15VT (Valvetronic) and a Line 6 Spider - with the same results. Our point of reference for the bass sound is a Epiphone Les Paul - which is surprisingly less bassy.
Have any of you experienced something similar with the Corts or is it purely our setup that's causing this? Can you offer any advice on how to remedy the situation, or is it a case of fiddling with the amp settings and finding a compromise somewhere along the line?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah,I got a x2, I seem to hav the "problem",but I don't see it as a problem actually, coz I play mostly a strat, so wheb I need that more bass raunchy sound I pick up the cort...also,I swapped out the stock pickups for a 81/85 set...now she she howls more than talks...like I said, it might be a problem to u guys, but I hav noticed the "bassiness" and I kinda like it...maybe its the wood its made from?

Bass-heavy is relative, so it's difficult to say whether it's a problem or just your perception. Humbuckers will always sound warmer than single-coils and the woods used in the X-series (agathis, basswood) also make for a warmer guitar. Hotter pickups tend to be mid heavy and lacking in treble. Pots could be the wrong value (should be 500K, not 250K), or just plain out of spec. Could be a faulty cable... any number of problems, really.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.
@ Alan - Something I should probably have mentioned was that both the Cort guitars are stock AFAIK - given that both were purchased second hand. It could also just be a case of the X-series pickups being quite hot.
We've also tried running different guitars through the same setup (Epiphone Les Paul - modded pups, Cort (??) with Seymore Duncans) and only the X-Series' have the bass problem.

My X5 sounds great and its stock... Balanced tone. I don't think it's necessarily the X-range. Must be another reason imo...
