I know I'm going on a bit here, but this JCM 900 valve baby is changing my life!
My lead work sounds way better and as a result I am playing more lead and it just seems to be flowing and melding better.
Man she sounds good!
It just feels more....well, complete. ?

Yet you still get people who attempt to justify solid state as their prefered and better option...

It is accepted that there are a few golden solid states though but in general, ja, valve reigns supreme. I still haven't had the joy of owning one though, only played a few ☹

as yet another recent valve convert , i concur with what mika said . And we in an era where relatively great sounding valve amps . . . I'm thinking laney and blackstar ect are now affordable to all . So no more excuses for anyone wanting and owning one . But yes hammeron i share your joy of valve tone . And i guess it does not make you play better ? but it does make you sound better , and a good guitar into a valve amp just drips tone . I can imagine how loud that marshall must be ? enjoy

Not to say there are not good SS amps... but to get that tone, feel, and overall love for your sound Tubes are pretty much the way....

No looking down on people who use SS amps, I used to before I could afford a Tube amp... but the thing is I knew that the tube sound is the way I would go... and I never tried to give reasons or excuses why my SS amp was better..... They are what they are....

What do you guys think of the Valvetronix amps? (Or tube hybrids in general?) I've seen them going for next to nothing on gumtree (found the AD15VT for 200 bucks more than what I paid for my cube x15) and I'm really getting sick of the tone (or lack of it) coming out of my practice amp. I was briefly considering a PUP change in my Ibanez, do you think the amp may be a better upgrade?

i got the VT100 Valvetronix - and to be honest - after 3 months I was ready to get rid of it ... BUT that was because - as a male - I did not read the frigging manual...!!

now that I know how to use all the settings - WOW !!!! am totally in love with the amp - the AC30 voicing is as close to the real thing as I have ever heard...

i was being a total numb-nut and using the SONG presets as "voicing" presets - not realising I should have been using the "manual" button to set my own parameters.. once I finally figured that out.. its like the amp just came alive!

Had plenty of fun and good usage out of mine, and only recently sold it to upgrade to something "tubey" ?

I think they're great bang for buck.

Ah cool, this definitely settles it then. I actually have a cube 20x not 15, oops. But anyway I'll be sticking it on gumtree by the weekend, I found a VT30 for R1700 in CapeTown, so assuming that it's all in working order I'll grab it. I'll just have to organise to get it to KZN like my last amp. ?
