I'll be getting it at home within the next week or so, but I'm on an uncapped line so not stressed about cap usage.

Looks pretty good: full screen apps, mission control etc. all look pretty nifty. 8)

It will be worth the download. I leave OSx upgrades for a couple of months until the work out the bugs.
Lion does look very cool though, some nice toys they have thrown in this time.

1 hour and 59 min left to download... I'll let you guys know (although I think it may slow drastically after US wake up time, as it is it's moving pretty slowly)

Some notes:
- I've checked all my main apps are compatible at http://roaringapps.com/
- Apparently it's recommended to burn a copy of the dmg in case something goes wrong, you have to redownload it (unless I misunderstood), not fun
- Time machine/back up of course

The only thing I really want is improved speed/stability but some of the changes/additions seem nifty....

Edit: it is always wiser to wait for the first update but "where angels fear to tread" and all that ?

Really? I always found Leopard (and Snow Leopard after it) to be pretty fast and stable. My Mac originally came with Tiger, and each upgrade was incrementally better.

Yep SL is pretty fast and stable, there can't be too much speed and stability though ?

I'm running it, there's not a hell of a lot of difference in speed from what I can see. Some annoying additions though.

Pro Tools is 100% NOT approved with Lion and will not work with it. I would imagine this goes for many other apps too, so I will not be touching it for quite some time until I know all my apps are good to go.

For years I was all over the new Apple platforms and upgrades etc but I have tired of that now.....now I go for stability over my eagerness to have the latest and greatest.

Update on the update... well, the download goes from 59min to 7hrs to 8days and back to 40min all in the space of 30secs so who knows...
Since this is a work machine I'm piloting for the office and there's no serious apps like pro tools to worry about. The last Snow Leopard update (required to install App Store) gave me a very noticeable boost and better stability on FF. I'm looking forward to full screen ?

Not a fanboy in the least although I've come to prefer macbook over pc laptops but i'll never abandon my android phone ?

@ pbrizzolari: the reversed scrolling is annoying a lot of people but I believe that's easily reverted. Off topic but can you get "unread replies" on tapatalk?

Ok, so Lion seems to be trotting along nicely:
- speed increase so marginal that I might be imagining it (this is after the spotlight re-index)
- I like the reversed "natural" scrolling but I can see how it would irritate the S%£t out of some people (my wife)
- launchpad is great, nice way of presenting apps and letting the user organise them
- mission control is great, much more intuitive than the spaces etc. set up
- no issues with apps other than Emusic which directed me to the latest download helper, works fine now. Apparently vodafone modem software needs to be upgraded, I've installed the upgrade but not tried the modem yet. My MTN seems fine.
- ff not 100% stable, but it's never been for me. Might try their beta out.
- swipe tweaks are fine, i really like the three finger drag
- adding signature to pdf is very handy
- quicksilver works fine
- Office 2008 works fine as far as I can tell, Entourage appears to be more wobbly in search but it's about the worst search function ever anyway

So, nothing revolutionary (as far as I can tell) but some nice tweaks... Worth the R200 for the office but I wouldn't pay for the R600 (or whatever) USB version unless absolutely needed.

FF really doesn't like Lion at all, although FF 6 is supposedly happy with it. Spotlight indexing is spotty and I'm looking for a way around it...

Have you tried Chrome on the Mac yet?

Have you tried Chrome on the Mac yet?

Last I checked the tabs were still immovable on top... i find it awkward to have them wedged between the address bar and mac bar on top ☹
While FF defaults with them on top now you can still put them where you want them...

I'm happy but it took a bit of tweaking... definitely check the compatibility list first if you have major pricey software that you don't want bricked.
I like launchpad and mission control as well as air drop and some of the other new bits. Spotlight is much more accurate and gives really handy little previews of the files.
I wouldn't say it's essential but I like.
