Vox Tonelab LE (effects loop advice)

Need some effects loop help please.

I tried the 4 cable method but for some reason the pedal controls the amp - it's irrelevant whether I switch
between clean and dirty channels, the knobs don't respond like they do when it's only guitar and amp (Peavey Valveking 112)
I turn the knobs and nothing happens, no volume change, treble, middle etc.

Think there is a clash between the preamps perhaps? How do I bypass the Tonelab's preamp so that the amp is in charge? (sounds weird I know)
I'm pretty lost in the dark here so any advice would be appreciated. :-[

Is there a loop button on the pedal? I have the gt-8 and if i want to do the 4 cable method i have to turn the loop button else it will disregard the effects loop part of your pedal, which effectively means you're plugging into just the effects loop of your amp which is why the volume knobs on the amp would make no difference because without the loop button activated all you've got effectively is
Guitar->pedal->effects return
Which means you are bypassing the preamp of the amp and just using the poweramp of your amp

^ What he said. To put it another way, you have to turn the Tonelab's loop on to get the amp's preamp. You can also turn the loop off when you want to use the Tonelab amp models. Write the settings into your patches, then it's there next time you call up the patch.

Maybe I'm just a fool, but Alan, how do I turn the Tonelab's effects loop on?

In pedal mode, use the bank down switch to toggle the loop - p22 of the manual (...ahem! ?). Similarly the control switch turns the amp model on and off.
