Ahem! :-[
I have just been corrected. Stratisfear uses the pinky to hold down strings 4 to 2 - but he does do the backwards bend with that digit.

hehe, Strat uses the same barre i do. It works Bob... It also helps to strengthen that little tea drinking digit. Its easier adding the bend at the joint too.
As for the one you want to do with the ring finger... it is difficult getting that high E to ring. No wonder the guys hand was all skew in the pic. Sorry for thinkin it was yours, hehe. Suggestion would be to practice bending at that joint? Will take time of course... I can't do that ring finger one and get my high string ringing too... So I'll politely back outta this one... give you a pat on the back and say good luck ?

Yeah, . . I've been using the pinkie with the backward bend ever since I started playing barre chords (at about 15 yrs old. . . now nearly 50 !) and play a full barre of all 6 strings ringing clear while using the pinkie like this. I guess it just depends what and how you learned in the formative years.
For just the 3 string power chords, I can switch between all 4 fingers, which is very handy, in that you don't have to slide your hand up or down to change chords, just change fingers (if that makes any sense :-[ )
