X-rated Bob wroteI tell myself that I have better feel for pitch and harmony than most people (or most people that I know) but I've found out that I'm far from accurate. There's at least three four songs I worked on (in lessons or for a live performance) with John van Nierop where I thought I had the song waxed and that it sounded right only to find out that I was quite wrong.
That's the story of Idols, except for the last part where the "performer" realises that he/she is wrong - that doesn't happen on Idols ?
No, but I understand exactly what you're saying. I've experienced the same. Over the years I've received plenty affirmation that I'm a good singer and that I have good intonation so that I actually started believing it. Yet, these days, when I hear myself on recording I sound thin and nasal and I miss the note ever so slightly from time to time. It's shocking stuff. People have paid me to sing and this is what I sound like? ?
But no, I spend very little time on aural training and perhaps I should.
PS - Bob, the Idols comparison is theoretical at best. I've heard you perform and you'd need to dial down the talent knob a far number of clicks before you reach the Idols level. ?
