Hi guys.
I am keen to do a course in sound engineering when I leave school.
There are a few options, what are your experiences and recommendations?
Depends on how serious you are about it.
If you are just doing it for yourself to get knowledge and set up your own home studio, even the smaller shorter courses run by a small studio will be of some benefit. If you really want to do it seriously, do a full-length course, preferably at uni, get a degree.
The full-length courses are best for giving you the basics and the theoretical knowledge that will stand you in good stead for the rest of your musical career (there is a lot of math though - so if you don't have a natural aptitude, be prepared to sweat).
Just be aware that it's very difficult to land a job in a studio at the best of times, so you will need letters behind your name and a lot of dogged determination to break into it and make a career out of it. It's also not a good time in the recording industry, as the demo market has disappeared into home studios and the majors are recording less and less.
What are the options you've looked at already?
