I want to connect my V-Amp to my existing amp's RCA inputs (10k impedance, 150mV sensitivity, 30dB overload capability).
The V-Amp manual states that all jack connections are TRS, although I opened her up and the unbalanced line outs are actually TS. I can work with this, although the V-Amp's ULTRA-G 4x12 cabinet simulation is only output on 2 balanced XLRs (100ohm, -10dBu nom & +4dBu when used in studio sim mode) and not the unbalanced line out jacks. I would like to be able to use the cab sims too. The V-Amp manual states that the ground(1) and cold(3) pins on the balanced outputs should be connected together for non-balanced use.
Now my experience with pro-audio is virtually non-existent, so I was wondering if anyone can verify whether I can ground the cold pin on the V-Amp's outputs and simply connect pin 2 and ground to my consumer amp's RCAs, without any impedance matching?

Hi Graeme
Connecting pin 1 and pin 3 together are the standard way of doing it. Usually you would still use a dual conductor cable and do the connection on the TS side, rather than the XLR, as this gives you slightly better noise rejection in most cases.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the confirmation.
I had no internet access until now and I refused to turn off my soldering iron until I got through and looked for a reply - yeah I somehow knew you'd reply ?
I am using 2 core overall-screened mic cable so I will definitely go the "compensating" route.

Connected up and it sounds great with no extraneous noise whatsoever ?
