Vintage ES335s - a drool thread

It's like my baby that guitar, its such a superb example of an ES, a real gem. You cant mention it too much... I get all emotional :'(
Mike Slavin even spent some time with my ES and was impressed. I know, I asked him ?

There is something special about an ES... I find that it does everything, and does it well.. be it jazz to blues, to rock...

Well, to be honest, it wasn't really entirely about your sale - although it reminded me to post. ? Good luck with that. Lovely looking guitar.

I just discovered the Gil Yaron thread. You learn so much about these guitars by reading his build threads because he leaves no stone unturned in figuring out the construction methods used on these guitars. I learned more about '50s LPs than I ever knew by reading his LP build thread, so when I saw this 335 build thread, I was intrigued.

I didn't even know, for example, about the bit of spruce between the centre block and the top. Or the composition of the laminated top and sides of these guitars. I mean, I had no idea that the first 335s had no neck binding. And I discovered theories as to why the simpler 335s may have sounded better than the more expensive 345s and 355s. It's quite the journey. ?

You know when all the planets align and you become single minded about getting that specific instrument, and "reason" defies all logic and expense ..........cause you gota have it !!!!! NOW !!!!!

SO HERE GOES - Nothing

Why don’t folks who know each other, live in a reasonable distance from each other and are of a simular, dare I say "standing" buy instruments on a fractional ownership basis. ( I did this with an aircraft I owned)

The reality is that most instruments spend a lot of time in their cases and a lot get used for experimental work only

Setting up a "club" charter which spell out the do's and don’ts, insurance, maintenance, etc etc should be easy.

Members buy in and sell out according to the charter. ( + factor is that you never have to tell your wife that you have bought a new piece )

So instead of spending 20k on 1 instrument you could possibly get 5 or so diffrent pieces guits, amps and stuff

I can get this '59 Les Paul ....who's interested in a share...? ? On a more serious note, I think it can work provided there's "an excellent understanding" amongst shareholders.

An interesting thing that Gil Yaron discovered, a large percentage of 50s Les Pauls, maybe all, including 59s, were NOT made of Honduras mahogany, but rather African mahogany.

And my fave, the '64 cherry with block inlays:

Also checks how the horns are slightly different on the '64. Not quite as Micky Mouse as the earlier ones.
