Hey guys, pretty bummed, had to pass up a jam today to keep the peace due to all the travelling im doing for work...
:?
Anywho.. any paintball enthusiasts out here? Its a new hobby I got talked into and Im hooked, love it..
Anyone play? where do you play, what kit do you have etc etc?
MikeM
Used to play SAPPL div 0.. Was an experience. Haven't played in 3 years or so... Way too much cash sitting in the bottom of my cupboard :\
guidothepimmp
Cant have that, we should start up a GFSA paintball team, that would rock! mind the pun
MikeM
Stopped playing cause it was costing me like R700 a month in paint and tournaments ?
Jacquesg4j
Yeah another one here! Played for a team called the Widowmakers. Only ever managed to play one big tournament and that was the TriNations. Had a lot of fun! We only played airball and use to practice every weekend at a place in Bredell. We were also lucky enough to have a sponcorship from a company so did not cost too much to play.
I had 2 markers, Karnivor Autococker and a Smart Parts ION. Barrel kits for both, fibre air canisters for both, force feed hoppers on both, and all the other small pieces you can think of!
guidothepimmp
Niiice ?
Im a total noob to paintball but got me a tippmann A5,flatliner barrel, CO2, although from what I have read... (and experienced, I may well be going to air soon), comes with a cyclone feeder which is quite nifty... looking at an e trigger too. this one is for woodsball
keento get another marker for speedball. Super addictive... I dig it big time...
MikeM
I only played speedball. I played 2 years SAPPL pro league.. And then 1 year in the PBC pro league. So basically played against all the best teams in GP. Had a sponsorship for gear and paint, but still paid like R150 a bx, and going through 3 boxes or more in each tourney, I just couldn't keep up. One day I will start up again, but only when I have an income.
guidothepimmp
Awesome,
Im hoping to join one of the leagues as soon as Ive become a bit more tactics savvy :-[

I wont lie I have played twice, and it was fun and all. But when guys take it to serious, getting all the crazy gear, looking like the SAS of paint, it seems a bit much for me.
I would guess all the kit you need is a paintball gun and paint balls.
the idea of putting to much thought and organisation and substance into it ruins it for me.

Pity Mike. It's quite fun when it gets really competitive as a sport. I don't like the whole tactical simulation thing though..

Oh I love playing it and getting two teams in a huge space and shooting the hell out of each other. But I enjoy it for the fact that we are a bunch of guys who really have no idea of how to shoot, or fight in a situation like that so its just choas and very bad paintballing.
When it gets super tactical and guys get so serious it kills it for me.

i've still got a mark on my arm from playing paintball 2 years ago, we played without protective gear and shirts ?
but its lots of fun

Surely all you need is some paint. Preferably water based. There's things you don't want to do with thinners.
guidothepimmp
right on Bob, that is indeed. The paint used is waterbased..
and... a gas/air propelled shooter ?
Mike and Mike, agreed, there are guys that take it over the top a bit, think theyre GI Joes or whatever, but I dig going out there with some mates (none of which are experienced) and shoot each other..
MIKA-the-better-one
Its great fun with friends... being ridiculous and having no real strategy.... I would go every week if I could afford it

Guido, you should have a chat with Tazz, I don't know if he still has his old gear, but he had pro stuff and was huge in the scene for a long time.
I'd love to do it, but time..................she's not on my side.
Jacquesg4j
Time is one thing, money for me is another! I use to play 2 to 3 times a week and now it's been almost 2 years since I played!
Warren
I also used to play quite competitively, had a small team of mates who took it seriously for a while.
Played in a couple of big tournaments and, must be honest, it wasn't fun being annihilated by guys with R12k Angel/DM4/Timmy/Autococker markers that fire 30+ balls per second ? Oh and sponsored paint...geez paint was expensive if you played every week.
@Mike
R700 per month, it was costing me about that every session. ? Maybe I'm not a very good shot...
I agree with Mika though, it was more fun when it was less serious, but I guess you could say that about pretty much any hobby.
