Who inspired you to pick up a guitar?

I feel that everyone has a reason for starting to learn guitar and mostly those reasons might be someone that inspired you, or the sound of someone you've heard for the first time. Name a few of the influances that made you decide to play guitar. Here is my reason. I've got indroduced to the sound of Rock musick through the guitars of Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi, Brain May from Queen and Phil Collin from Def Leppard. I told my dad that I want to be able to do what those guys could do and that he must buy me a guitar. Well, thats where it started.

For sure!! Im happy I managed to get my hands on an isolated bass video clip of John E playing "wont get fooled again"! all i can say is WOW!!! fast, effortless movements, and you have to love his mellow "i dont give a shit" pose

Renesongs wrote I hated Dylan's version of All Along the watchtower LOL ?

Absolutely. Hendrix's version of it is, without doubt, the best...followed, at a long distance, by the Dave Matthews Band version.

Dylan also prefers the Jimi Version! In recent years he's been performing it more like that than his original version.

Alan Ratcliffe wrote I didn't realise that the Dylan version predated the Animals one - I don't really like his version anyway. Heh - when I learned to play it my friends thought it was a song by Hot RS (remember that version? Was banned pretty quickly because of the "orgasm" noises, but the clubs loved it).

Haha I have the tape at the bottom of a box somewhere! I was introduced to it in the 80s by a very insistent lady ?

Speaking of Watchtower... have any of you heard the Dave Matthews Band version?

Not hardcore, or anything ... :-[

Yeah neil young is awesome.

Funny how youtube and similar sites is killing our cap. Bring on cheap bandwidth.

Music is bandwidth intensive.

I've always enjoyed listeing to the solo's of the usual suspects but if i were to pin why i started playing guitar on one band i would say it was Rodrigo y Gabriela.

I'm not implying they stack up well against the greats, but it was while listening to their stuff that the proverbial camel's back was finally broken and i decided i was actually going to play the thing.

Funny enough, my first song i decided to learn was Tamacun. Lol, in my ignorance i went forward with it. Let's just say when i was about a 3rd of the way my pinky was working just fine. ?

I never did fully finish it. After about two weeks i realised it may be better to move on and come back when i was a more accomplished guitarist. ?

Edit/

Now you probably thinking, what was his next song. Surely he would have downgraded and gone for something more on his level. But sadly you are wrong, even though i knew i needed to downsize, i simply couldn't help myself. My next song was Rodrigo y gabriela - stairway to heaven ... lol Lets just say that didnt last to long. I probably got an eight of the way through.

Either way, the song was the gateway drug which got me started on this awesome journey.

It was the 1st day of the new school year. I met the new kid. I gave him a lot of hassels but we where good friends. so one day... 27th febuary to be precise... I went to his home with him. I saw he had a guitar and I told him to show me how to play a song. He showed me how to play adams song and from there I was hooked. I played Adam's song but only the intro until he showed me how to learn new songs. So I asked him to borrow his guitar, he did and I played a bit. I started learning a new song because my uncle liked the song so 3 days later I could play One last breath.. My first song, but not my first guitar yet. After returning my friends guitar I learned that the guy across the street also plays. I borrowed his sisters guitar, an old Fender. The neck was broken and fixed so it was a bit bent. About 8 months of playing guitar I finally bought my own. My Ibanez Artwood. I use to be addicted to playing. I would play right through the nigh and go to bed by the time my mom got up for work. Now its just hard to learn someting that can get me vertical growth and not just horizontal growth...

The End...

lol

Bane

I never had any interest in the guitar. Back then it always seemed so aloof and perhaps out of reach (you know, like hollywood stars or something). And then a stranger put a guitar in my hand and tought me an AC/DC riff...and life as I knew it changed...

lightspeedchili

has 2 be Frusciante's solo's for Scar Tissue...was the first RHCP song i'd heard, made me love them and guitar!
