From 1976, Buchanan does "Hey Joe" and then briefly breaks into "Foxy Lady".

I was going to title this "Bearded guy with beret spanks a Fender" but I thought it better to go for universality (is that a word?) rather than just get Singemonkey all worked up.

I saw Roy open for SRV one time at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. We were taken to the show by Strike Force Management who were schmoozing us at the time. Strike Force managed SRV and also the band I was in at the time.....he was of course established with them and we were a new band on their roster. Our host from the management company asked me if I would like to go meet SRV after the show so I said no.........LOL......of course I said yes and after the show I went to the courtesy area with her. There were all these hangers on and leech people, groupies etc.

SRV had gone into his dressing room with Stevie Wonder and they did not come out. Someone told me it was because SRV had just sobered up and did not want to be around all the alcohol and drugs. So him and SW stayed cooped up.....I'm bettin' SW was looking after him. After a while I said to Ginnie that I was starting to feel like a groupie hanging out there and that I was going to take off and I'd just meet SRV on the next one.

Man I regret doing that. If I had just stayed I could have met SRV and I just maybe we'd have hit it off.

Anyhow, Roy was a fabulous guitar player, very enjoyable to watch. He would go off sometimes on these insane lead breaks that would kinda spoil all the others for me.....but that was just me. I preferred the way players like SRV and others kept the whole thing tight and cohesive. But Roy was definitely a force to be reckoned with and what a flippin' tone!!!!

I don't reckon he killed himself, hung himself in jail. I have to figure he was beat to death by the police.

Roy? Just doesn't quite gel for me... never even knew about the circumstances of his death. Sad stuff.
