Jack-Flash-Jr What happens when you put John Paul Jones, Jack White, Seasick Steve and Alison Mosshart on the same stage, and give 'em a Mississippi Fred McDowell tune? F&!k off blues, that's what! Skip this and lose out on music treat of the month!
Jack-Flash-Jr Hmmmm.... this just highlights different tastes. If anyone else had posted this clip I would have been all over it in two seconds flat - so much fun as you say. In my mind this clip has a 10 page thread already, and the throwaway cooking mash-up has 1 view, but instead that one is more or less climbing the charts so to speak :? (ok, maybe a few comments doesn't count ? ) At least the monkey man is interested in modern masters taking on a classic ☹ bless your little furry heart. This is not blues like people things blues is like ffsake... it's ALIIIIIIIVE!
singemonkey BTW (just adding posts out of pity really ? ) I'm still very much on the fence about Seasick Steve. Not about him per se - he clearly loves the music and believes in it and he doesn't strike me as a phoney. But about the sudden appreciation for him seems so faddish. To me he doesn't sound very different from Billy Gibbons in either his voice or his slide playing (Billy G is obviously a more skilled player). So my feeling is that he's been successful beyond other real blues players because he fits a perfect "outsider artist" marketing profile.
Jack-Flash-Jr Have you listened to the Allman Brothers live yet? Expecting some licks tonight! As for Seasick... it's all fun, and it wears thin very quickly but it was a cool jam even though JW was all over the place and Alison Mosshart's voice was not good...
singemonkey Jack Flash Jr wrote Have you listened to the Allman Brothers live yet? Expecting some licks tonight! Yes. They do go on a bit, don't they. ?
Reinhard I'll have to watch this at home. The ABB do then to jam for eternity, must be cool if you're on something. Duane and Dickey did get some sweet LP tone ? Some of my favs: Stormy monday Whipping post Musta done somebody wrong Folsom Blues? (Name eludes me, but he looked over and grandma had them too)
singemonkey MikeM wrote I have such a man-crush on Jack it's sad ☹ Jack wuvs you too. Don't you Jack? ?
Bob-Dubery Sounds not unlike Zep actually - live and early Zep. Nice little performance. A lot of fun. For me JPJ steals the show.
make-and-do Thanks Jack, that was very entertaining. Bunch of my favourites on one stage. I think I have a crush on Miss Mosshart - Love her vocals for The Kills
Jack-Flash-Jr There's a lot of crushing going on: Bob on JPJ (who does steal the show), Make And Do on Alison (check out the Dead Weather videos for more!), Reinhard on Statesboro Blues and Mike M on me (of course) ? btw saying Mountain Jam or Whipping Post are too long is like saying War and Peace or The Corrections are too long... or Apocalypse Now or Citizen Kane could've have trimmed off that last hour ?
