The Challenge July 2011

As threatened This months challenge is Insane Genres
The idea is compose a one minute piece of music in 2 musical genres that don't go together e.g. Acid-Flamenco, Grunge-Jazz, Shred-Blues or Gospel-Punk.
Since I realise this is a pretty difficult challenge I am going to allow you to borrow well known covers so long as you totally don't sound anything like the original, Rather like what UB40 did to Johnny B Goode. Entries are to be PM ed to me by Monday 24th July '11. Please describe which genres you have put in the your blender in case we don't get it (we're not all hipsters you know)

Hipster... Although I am too young to know what it is, I found out from my fiance's granny like a month ago... I did think that she made it up at the time!

I think the idea is to look deficient in either mental or physical capacities.

I was asked last night whether I enjoy "dubstep". After quite a lot of confusion I realised, that that was the music that was playing (stupid question anyway, clearly I was enjoying it).

As a ambivalent and just slightly terrified owner of a near 18 year old Hipster daughter I think this epitomises the current trend

Do you shop at vintage clothes and spend your time at some concept coffee store that sells art and has free wifi.
Do you laugh at all the kids who come in without Macs and have thick-rims.
Maybe you even study video editing or copy-writing or something at Vega or somewhere?

As for the topic. I am now the proud owner of a TC electronics Konnect 6 interface so I have no excuses this month.

Yeah, I've been on the road most of the weekend and had plenty of time to dream up variations of genre mixes. I have quite a few that I think could be quite cool but I'm not sure I have the guitar playing prowess to pull them off. Will have to find something that is a cool mix AND that I can actually play. Should be fun.

Played around yesterday with some boere-metal ideas. He-he, especially hard for me since I cann't play either genres ? What other ideas are out there?

I'm quite liking the Gospel-Punk idea ? Not sure how to pull it off, but will maybe try some stuff this evening.

How are you guys getting along with this one? I do hope we will get more entries than last month or the month before. I've finally decided on a mix of two styles and I've started messing around with it but it's well and truly outside of my regular tastes in music so it is turning out to be quite a challenge. Still, good fun though. C'mon guys, get those genres in your blender and let's see what you pull out of it.

I just made a shocking discovery. The entries are to be submitted by Monday and I will not be at home until Monday evening. Looks like I'll have to cram my recording on Monday evening after work and get it to Rene before midnight. I assume midnight is the cutoff?

How are the rest of you getting on?

Dude I played around with some R&BronzeMetal but nothing finished as of yet!
