I'm a huge fan of metallica and Hetfield and have played the truckster and it's a great guitar, but the relic job looks fake. Very fake. The price charged for them is a bit nuts as well.
I dig relic........but rather the real thing please.
The real thing for me as well. I have a '91 Ibanez Jem that qualifies. It does add mojo but it has to be earned, not forced/forged/faked imo...
Did you play the LTD or the ESP? The wear on the LTD looks especially fake imo. I dig the look of the ESP, however. Still fake wear especially if you look at the amount of forearm wear shown, lol, but there's a massive difference between an ESP and a LTD. (Peeps on this forum tend to incorrectly call LTD's -ESP's- but they're not ESP's by a long shot...)
If you're willing to fork out for a Gibson Les Paul Custom you can get an ESP custom ordered for roughly the same price. (Around R34k locally) The ESP just has significantly better fit and finish and with vintage pups even the tone is on par. The EMG's in such a warm sounding mahogany body and neck sounds fantastic though. But, yeah, it's still a truck load of cash... BTW. James' Truckster is also (obviously) pre-worn. I wouldn't have liked it as much if the guitar was a copy of a guitar that was actually worn out by the artist as to me that would be as good as cheating. As I've mentioned, I'm not much of a fan of new relic'd guitars but I do like the look of the Truckster. The real ESP at least.
