WHO ?
My name's Gareth Travis.
I'm 26, hailing from S Suburbs in Cape Town, SA.
PLAYING/GIGGING BACKGROUND:
I have been playing guitar since 1995 (so that's now 13 years ?)
I have played in various original and cover bands (including theatre shows 4 the usual local culprits like Mike McCullagh)
I have also scripted, directed and performed in my own theatre production, "Rock Evolution" (appeared at the BMW Theatre At The Pavillion in the Waterfront)
I am currently working on a new project, a mixture of originals & "different" covers tentatively titled
"The LoadShedders" - an acoustic lineup of 2 guitarists (with occasional bass), a vocalist and a hot percussionist/electronic noise maker - all members can sing !
TASTES:
I was brought up on a steady diet of The Beatles, Hollies, Queen, The Who, Cream, Byrds, Steely Dan, Hendrix and Neil Young to name a few.
My personal tastes growing up included/s Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Manic Street Preachers, Placebo, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, Idlewild, Silverchair, RATM & Audioslave, Muse, Foo Fighters, Snot, Crowded House, Police, Incubus, Slipknot, SOAD etc ...
I love "classic" guitars,pedals & amps and the tones they produce with talented fingers.
GEAR:
Currently I have an Orange Tiny Terror Class A 15 watt valve head running into a Laney Celestion 70/80 loaded 4 x 12" cab, a Fender BAJA Telecaster, a USA Custom Guitars Strat with complete Fender Clapton electronics system, a Yamaha AES 620 (customized with Lindy Fralin humbuckers and upgraded hardware), a Takamine AN46 steel string mini jumbo acoustic, and co-own a Takamine acoustic/electric bass.
I have a BOSS GT-8 (runs into a Roland KC-350 amp), and tonnes of stomps, including:
original 70's EH Small Stone phaser & Electric Mistress Flanger, re-issue USA Big Muff, reissue Small Clone Chorus new BOSS TU-2 tuner & DS-1 & original 80's OD-1 Overdrive, Carl Martin Drive Zone, VOX reissue Clyde McCoy Wah, ISP Decimator Gate & MXR Smart Gate, Tech 21 GT-2 etc ...

My other half is a classically trained pianist who has been playing bass for 2 years (along similar musical tastes).
She has a Mexican Precision Fender 4 string bass, a Jap Fender Geddy Lee Jazz, an Ibanez 4 string "lawsuite" Precision copy, plus some other toys (Hartke Bass Attack pedal, Yamaha Nathan East preamp)
She's playing in her 1st "rock" band, Love Immortal. (kinda goth-rock)
WORK BACKGROUND:
I worked for Paul Bothner Music in CT for 5 years heading up their guitar dept, and am now self-employed.
I provide: Guitar tuition, guitar setups/repairs, used & vintage gear sales, band coaching and assist music shops with
product clinics & service etc ...
I hope to bump into some other members, am open to jam with the right people - always looking for potential band members for new projects !

Pity i missed your show at the BMW pav, i heard great things about it. I'll be popping in again for a pup installation and a full service in about 10 days. (hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink, cough cough ?)
