Why are those Boss powersupplies so pricy

I was at Yebo electronics trying to find a solution to get my HOG powered, and the guy gave me a pretty hardcore powersupply that he assured me was top of the range, for only R220, it even has a surge protector and a output volatage selector, I showed him my trusty Boss power adaptor and told him they go for about R300 and he laughed and said it should be about R80 at the most. Why are they so much more expensive? and was it a mistake for me to buy their power supply?

So a turn of events. Unfortunately, my Digitech Jamman solo, which was running of the Boss AC adaptor has stopped working. I don't know how or why, all I know is that I was swapping power supplies to try sort out a small hum. The other supply that I got from Yebo didn't work for the Looper so I decided to revert back, and then, nothing! My HOG (which is connected to the new supply) works fine, but nothing seems to power my looper. The adaptor seems to be fine as it powers my other gear, but my Voodoo nor adaptor can get the looper going. My adaptor has a green led on it when powered and as soon as I plug it into my looper it flashed on and off continiously, and it only does this for the looper.

*The new PSU gives out 1500mA, whilst my boss adaptor only 250mA, it refused to work with the HOG, obviously now I realize this because the mA was too small, but too much mA can't hurt a pedal can it?

*I see now once looking at the label that it needs 300ma (the looper) but it had been working fine all along on my 250ma, so that can't surely be it

as I was writing the post I thought about that, I then checked the looper and it doesn't take battery. So thats not an option haha

Sounds like a short circuit in the pedal is causing the supply to shut down. Maak oop and check the diode near the DC input! Should be a 1N4007. Most pedals have a reversed biased protection diode across the supply that will conduct and short the supply (protecting the pedal) if the DC is connected the wrong way around and they sometimes fail.

I don't specifically see the diode, but everything on the pedal is practically surface mounted. Before it stopped working (i.e. shorting the power), I changed the connector, so maybe it reversed the polarity or something like that and damaged the pedal. Very weird. Even if I should find this diode, how can I fix it. Maybe I should just bring it into you to sort out ?

Just to answer this, the rating you have there is telling you that the PSU can accommodate a device that requires up to 1500 mA. It doesn't mean that it pushes that out continuously.

I had a similar issue with prices, just by the way, albeit with something different. I bought a 75W infrared bulb to use to heat a small area for our puppy it sleep in (it was really cold, ok! ?). That cost me about R170 from a pet store. Went to Builder's Warehouse, and they had a 250W for something like R80... "Specialised" stuff warrants huge price tags...
