It's called Waterkloof. Pse check it out. I just hope this link works and this version sounds OK, as I had to compress it totally flat to be able to post it somewhere:

It's a WMA file, so it's rather big - use the work's Net! Or, if not, let me know and I'll post an MP3 version as well. Tx! Mw

Can't download it. Keeps on cycling me back to the download page to wait another 90 seconds.

Sorry A!

You think I WILL have to join Box.net?
AlanRatcliffe
Box.net seems to work. I also have a premium account at rapidshare.com, which always works.

How much? And is your CCard still safe?!
AlanRatcliffe
OK - Got them (both).
Based on a quick listen on phones: good production, good singing, good song, and some good recording. I'll need a chance to listen to it a few times on nearfields to comment in depth, but overall it's impressive.
The only thing that immediately jumped out at me as needing fixing was the drums during the quieter sections, which are a bit too overbearing with too aggressive an attack on the kick.
Heath
i quiet liked it ....
Matt-White
Yup, bloody canned drums!
Not everyone's cup, I know, and it turned out totally different than I expected. Started out as a simple progression (currently the intro).
Tx!

Try uploading it using our uploader-form-thingie. I've linked to it from the main-menu now ?
Matt-White
Just did, tx! (The MP3 version) Where would it be sitting now?
NorioDS
Matt, if you go to the uploader, it should list your uploaded files there. Just right-click the correct one and select "Copy link" or "Save shortcut" or something like that and then you can paste that here. Good luck!

Very impressive dude! Me likes

Hi Matt
OK. I have a couple of listens under my belt and I like it. You've got the recording and performance side down, so most of my comments are production-oriented.
Firstly the MP3 version is terrible. The bitrate is way too low and kills every aspect of the recording. Try encode at a rate of at least 128K
I love the tympani accents you use near the beginning. They add a touch of class and are a nice touch to set the recording apart from other similar songs.
The synth strings are cheesy sounding. Nothing wrong with the notes they are playing, but the tonality comes across as a cheap sample-based synth. Either upgrade the sound or try some layering and double tracking to flesh out the sound.
Drums are the biggest problem. Tonally they are more metal oriented with far too much click (very Metallica) in the bass drum sound. The kick is mixed too high, and is way too aggressive for the quieter sections. In the quieter sections the drums are too busy - the whole recording takes a step back and eases off at those points, but the sidestick is way too busy and loud and the kick is also way too loud (It's busy too, but I would try leave it that way with a simpler sidestick pattern at first).
I love the vocals too. Excellent voice for the style of music and the performance is good. While the voice itself has an impressive depth and resonance, I suspect you had to thin it out a little to get it to fit into the production - no complaint there, but I'd be interested to hear the singer (you?) in full depth. I liked the "radio voice" vocal and specifically the change into the full frequency version. Backing vocals are good and I liked the way you chose to only bring them in a little later in the song.
So - all-in-all, very good. A few tweaks and a decent mastering job would make it suitable for radio play or CD release.
Now you need to tell me about the recording: what you used, etc.
Matt-White
Tx A!
I hear what you're saying.
The full story: The song started with that intro, which I wrote on an acoustic. Most of the stuff I do happen that way, whilst messing around and looking for something different. It just grew from there.
In hindsight, I should have dropped the bridge between the intro and first verse. Makes it too long and clumsy, but what the hell.
I wrote the music and lyrics and played the rhythm parts - we built on an acoustic guitar rhythm track.
We recorded at a mate of mine, Robert Mitchley's, studio in Grabouw - Fat Cat Studios. R's band is called Moonflower and he also plays drums and lead for Gian Groen, among other things. A great muso.
We used my Jap Strat through a cranked Fender Pro Junior for the rhythm bits (nothing else), and same amp with a pedal (can't recall which one!) for the solos which Robert played on his HSS Strat in the bridge position.
Robert produced everything and programmed the drums and strings on Reason, which we pulled over into ProTools. He also did the leads and vox - Yup, he's got an amazing voice and we in fact had to keep it in check to fit the tune.
We did two others as well, which we unfortunately didn't get to finish...
Tx for your time - I might just ask your input again, on works in progress!
