slyd Heyy Giggsy. . . .. really cool build, bru ? I love the natural pine with the danish oil and antique wax (same as i used on the naked squire rebuild), it really looks so good. Unless the neck feels awful, I wouldn't stress about it being a "behringer". I did a set-up of one of them "B" guitars, and was very impressed at the quality of the "cheap" neck", and it's ability to set-up super slick. Just use some fine steel wool and Dr Duck oil on the frets and fretboard, and they come out really nice. The tuners are a little miff, and would be my only concern. well done 8)
MIKA-the-better-one Ok I have to jump in here..... if you bought that neck from MikeM then he bought it from me last year..... So I can 100% claim it is a "not nice neck" in the kindest terms... I just get worried.... man like I said dont let everyone softly coat it for you..... invest in a good neck..... anytime I have ever scammed off and tried to justify a peice of weak gear I have hated myself for it later. Warmoth ..... do it.... check it out...... do it.........
guidothepimmp this makes me smile. He did say this was a project to learn etc for the day he attempted this with a nice slab of wood. so maybe... just maybe he isnt that concerned that the neck isnt gold plated or has the finest polished stainless steel frets.. it could be that he may consider dropping coin on a "decent" neck for his bigger project.. it could also be that im missing a trick here... either way.. im pretty sure the point of this thread wasnt for everyone to dis his neck.. but rather to share his experience in building his 1st body.. rant over
MIKA-the-better-one hey man definatly.... but when something is posted opinions are expected..... not 1000 comments saying "woah.. nice" or "Sweet build" Like I said Warmoth necks you can get whatever you need...
Bob-Dubery Well it's not a lot less sophisticated than Les Paul's famous "log". May I suggest that you name this one "the plank"?
flatfourfan Giggsy..........I have to agree with guido here as I have been in your shoes...............when ppl told me that using pine shelving was a joke and that I was screwing up the explorer and that it wouldn't play worth anything..........guess that we showed them. I've never been a snob when it comes to guits and I know that you're the same...........if the neck works for you.............keep it. What would the the headstock look like if you used danish oil on that? Could probably blend it in a bit more.
giggsy Been having a good chuckle about this all. I ended up making this guitar for about a grand for two reasons - got another kid ready to pop in the next week or so, so there were more important things to spend money on, and I wasn't even sure that I would be able to make a working, playable guitar without the right/any tools. Now that I know that it is possible, my next project will definitely be more advanced (and yes, the Warmoth necks do look great, awesome range, amazing customisable choices etc etc, but at around R1200 for the cheapest, excluding shipping to SA, it wouldnt have made any sense for this particular project). My guitar is far from perfect and was never made with the intention to sell (though I doubt anyone would want to buy it), but I put in some long hours on it, and I dig it.
flatfourfan slyd wrote We dig it too, bru ? amen. Playing your own equipment is a feeling that can't be beat.
