please guide me in the right direction

Hi, i'm an average guitar player looking to improve!!!i've been playing guitar for about two and a half years now. Ive got the basics down( i know barre chords, major/minor pentatonic scale, all the regular chords, fingerpicking techniques etc), i've learned quite a lot of songs using guitar tabs. I want to know what to learn now, what should i learn where should i learn ir??? please help me??

couple of things:

try learning harder songs
try mastering a specific sub-genre such as jazz or blues comprehensively
try learning songs by reading music (not tabs)
try learning songs by ear
try composing your own songs

yeh just write songs... learn songs you like....

Use the scales you know to improvise to tracks that you like.
This will help you develop improv skills, composition skills and will introduce you to what notes work in what keys.
Get comfortable with your fret board.

Well as far as classic rock goes. Led Zeppelin and Pink floyd are great. Also if you like porcupine tree wedding nails is a nice song on guitar to learn.
Otherwise the last work of the late Dio in Heaven and Hell has some great tracks on it worth playing around with.
Just what ever you do add your own feel. Do not try and copy a song note for note. It won't help as much to grow you as a guitarist.
With every song you learn try take something out of it and add something to it.

Sorry I'm not to clued up on Indie rock.

+1 this will boost your playing bigtime... look for guys who are better than you but that you can keep up with. A band situation will pull you out of the rut...
