Twin not so much reverb.

Hi guys. I've got a question for the amp gurus. I have a 79' Fender Super Twin reverb but the reverb isn't working to great.
It comes on and off as it pleases. If I tilt it the reverb is off and seems to be making quite a bit of noise.
What could be wrong with it? Somethings got to work because it works at times.

Or the reverb pan. Start off by swapping out the reverb tube, otherwise you'll most likely need the pan repaired or replaced.

The tilting thing sounds like the tank/pan. If the sound it's making is extreme crashing, the springs are hitting the walls of the tank. Open it and look see if the pickup has come loose/moved from where it should be mounted - you can often fix them.

Otherwise check the 12AT7 in V3 and make sure the plugs and sockets to and from the tank are clean and making good contact. Also turn the reverb knob a few times to clean the tracks.

Further than that, it's a job for a tech...

That sounds about right. It does make that loud crashing sound if you tilt the amp. I'll have a look at it.

If it is a long spring tank (type 4) then the clash would be normal when the amp gets quickly tilted or knocked from the side. Especially if the reverb has been turned up high. The going on and off and the "noise" sounds to me like the input cable is disconnecting and going open. That would explain the working on and off that you are getting.

Okay thanks ?. So should I try have a look at it myself (I'm a reak novice when it comes to technical stuff) and if so what should I do?. Or should I take it to pro.
I just worry that I could cause further damage.

Truthfully take your amp to JC in Randburg.... or just outside it.... probably will cost you R500 or up, but he will get your amp in top condition...
When I bought my twin I took it there first, he got it sounding great, and he was accociated with it for future use.

Ye that's who I was going to take it to. I'm actually trying to sell it so that he can build me something. ?

He makes some nice amps...... The twin is a great amp and really if you want crystal clean, thats the way to go, better than boutique I say.
But if you want a bit of dirt or just different tone the twin may not be your thing.
I recall never bringing mine aboce 3 or 4 live.... and that was a struggle

Ye it's a great basic clean tone which also makes it nice if you want to use effects.
I love the fender cleans but I really would like something different now.
I had a hotrod deluxe which I loved but it's still that same sweet fender clean tone. I really like the Marshall 2061x head and cab but it's not very versatile and I would like something with a bit more headroom.
JP said that he could make something similar but switchable from 18 to 36 watts. That sounds perfect for me. If I can sell my twin that is. ?
