Ebay Import tax and handling costs?

Im wondering if any forum members have experience with buying guitars on ebay? Generaly SA doesn't use ebay that much but there are a few great deals... But theres alot of extra cost to get the guitar in the country? Hoping someone can share some wisdom on import tax etc.

Its the dimensions that are weird, 57 x 23 x 7 length width height in inches. It weighs 15 pounds according to Amazon (got the dimensions there too) Lol, the cheapest I could make it at UPS.com was $1500 and USPS $2400 so I must be doing something wrong.

57 inches x 23? What are they packing it in? Or is it a bass? The maximum length for USPS priority is something like 47" - above that and the price will jump radically.

I once paid a lot more than neccessary for a guitar because the case was oversized, with inches spare on the headstock side. It would have been cheaper to pay for another, more compact case than to pay for the extra shipping, but I didn't know that until it got here.

Thanks Alan, his revised dimensions were 40 x 23 x 7 which ended up being around $450 to send through, so I have decided to leave it for now because his area doesn't support Ground to Ground services so he'd have to travel to a bigger town to send it off. Too many things aren't going my way so that's normally a sign to pass on a transaction.
