Elvis made a big impact soon after that song. The first Elvis numbers I heard on radio, I think, were Blue Moon Of Kentucky, That's Alright Mama and Shep. My older sisters and their friends loved him and our parents and teachers were kind of shocked by it all. Because I could play guitar my sisters encouraged me to play all the new numbers Elvis released as well as Bill Haley and The Comets stuff... I also had to learn some Tommy Steele... not forgetting "Green Door" of course. Their friends would bring around their 78's and I would sit in front of the gramaphone working the songs out while they copied the words out for me.
You say that I should cover that number... well our band does a rockabilly set which includes the numbers above although "Singing The Blues" is hardly rockabilly but sort of a precursor it.
