So, my main birthday present today, my new pride and joy; Fender Custom Shop '69 Strat pickups, on the way to a guitar near me ?

And they'll soon be installed in my little Epiphone:

I can't wait to hear the difference. I wish I could record it properly, but I figured, choosing between a recording setup for the laptop or the pups, I'd prefer the Fenders ? I've always wanted a Strat, but this will do me until the funds come in ?

So just waiting 'til I can collect the SSS scratchplate from Costa, and then wait some more for exams to end, then I'm into my latest upgrade! ?

Are you fitting a new pick guard as well due to the hum backer in the bridge position.

I am indeed. As I said, I'm getting a SSS pickguard from Costa soon.

Nice....good choice! I have eyed a set of those a few times before, but don't have another strat worth fitting them to. Some info that might be of use to you : I had the exact same guitar and also went through the pup and pickguard change. The guards I got were Fender replacement parts, and the screw holes didn't line up with the existing ones. I ended up plugging the old holes with pieces of coctail sosatie sticks. Perfect fit! Then I just marked the new hole positions on the guitar using the new pickguard as stencil, and drilled pilot holes with the thinnest bit I could find. Turned out well. You might have to go through a similar process when you fit your pups.

I had a feeling that problem may rear it's head. How necessary was it to plug the original holes? Would the new ones have been too close to the original holes? In other words, would it have been possible to leave the originals open, in case you wanted to re-attach the original pickguard?

I just checked the old p.guard against another strat guard. Three line up perfectly, three overlap, and the rest are off. So you can get away with plugging only three.
