so what strings does everyone use , and why . normally i use ernie balls super slinkys 10s on most of my guitars , they just seem to have the sound i enjoy...

Ernie Ball .011 Power Slinky's on most - Higher tension than D'Addario and last longer (for me). I used to use the Elixirs for durability, but they stop the hand/string ground connection on electrics, so I get more hum with them. I never use the Fender Bullets because they often have intonation problems and the bullet ends get stuck in the trem blocks.

Elixir .012 Nanoweb on acoustic - really long lasting, sound and feel good.

Savarez 520P on nylons. Super high tension and very percussive. Make D'Addario high tension feel like Augustine Blues.

D'Addario bass .055 - .105 - I don't like them, but don't have a choice as they are the only double-ball strings available locally. They don't intonate properly and always have a lot of false "wolf" tones.

I use Dean Markley Signature Series, cos the name sounds so cool. The strings have a really bright sound and a really nice feel to them.

I change strings every four weeks but the strings hold their tone very well

I also use ernie ball 10's on both my electrics, I like the "fat" tone they give. For my acoustic i use ernie ball 11's.

I like it when my girlfriend wears a “G STRING” what we talking about again? :P Ernie Ball Super Slinky's works the best for me..

seems the mr ball makes a few cents off the local market , strange how the local guitar techs at most of the music shops try the flog off the cheaper stuff

Elixir .009 Nanoweb Electric guitar strings, lasts twice as long as any other strings I've used.
D'Addario .011 Acoustic strings

I use Slinky's as well. The pink (.09 Super Slinky) on my Vintage, green (.10 Regular Slinky) on everything else. Mostly out of habit. Been using Slinky's since almost forever. I like the way they feel and bend.

Used to use La Bella but it felt grimy most of the time due to the chemicals in my hands. Switched to ernie ball, again same problem. Now using D'Addario EXL 120s without a problem. Tonally, i really liked the ernie ball strings, but my D'Addario has better feel to it.

D'Addario (sp?) .010 or.011 for me on elec, whatever's cheapest on bass, and no idea what's on my acoustic. (Makess a mental note to check next time the store gets a visit.)

It's an entirely personal decision. Some people, because of their body chemistry, go through strings quicker than other folks. So they might find Elixirs or something similar work for them.

I used to use Elixirs, but didn't quite like the sound of their phosphor-bronze strings. Tried D'addarios and liked them. They don't last as long, but they do OK for me (I am not a professional player, and I don't have problems with sweaty hands). Recently I tried DR. I thought they sounded great and felt lovely, but they didn't seem to last, went dull pretty quickly.

In the meantime I put Elixirs on my "take to a braai" guitar and thought they actually sounded OK.

So who knows? Clearly I don't.

It's a personal thing. Strings are different, and so are we. Nothing works well for everybody.

I've been a fan of EB Super Slinkys (0.9) for many years. Before that I used to play on Regular Slinkys (0.10).
I can't recall what I used to use on the acoustics but I've recently switched to the EB acoustic range in 0.10

I tried GHS Boomers once and that was an abortion of epic proportion. Vile things

Yep, you got me ? But seriously, I'm currently using a set of Ernie Ball's and I almost despise them. D'Addarios just feel so good and so effortless!

True - and what works for not may not work for another. I have a friend who cannot use EB because they will go black within a few hours, so he uses D'Addario. The reverse is true for me, EB last much longer than D'Addario.
