Anyone have any experience buying anything off this site? I'm keen on some tweeters for a set of bowers&wilkins speakers from the 70's that my dad gave me, and one of its members is selling a set. Is it likely I'll be successful in dealing with someone speaking a different language in a different country?

I know Gearhead has in the past (he speaks the lingo), but you'll have to ask him how it went...

marktplaats.nl is like the gumtree in SA
some people are honest; others not but the majorty are thrustworthy
and for the item you are rferring, i doubt it will be a scam

I have bought well over R50k worth of stuff on marktplaats.nl (not with a z). Only once something went wrong for about R300 and I don't even think that was bad intent. The big difference with Ebay is that there is no end to the bidding so sometimes you must just approach the seller to find out what the wait is for. The big difference with Gumtree and with this forum is that I trust anyone there. I paid about R10k for my Triaxis without having seen it and the guy sent it to my family there. I paid R5k for my G-Force without having seen it etc etc.
If you write a mail to the oke in Afrikaans he will surely understand and if he's willing to send it to my family I can give you the address. I will be there next weekend so I can bring back stuff if it is not too heavy.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the z :-[, it was late last night and my fingers weren't obeying me.
Thanks for the offer Gearhead, that would be excellent.. Wrote to him in Afrikaans, and he said he's cool with sending it to me as well, but that I would have to do a direct transfer as he doesn't trust paypal from South Africa? Anyway, will speak to him again and see what will work best.
